I bought a used wii from game crazy with the idea that I could get a longer warranty out of the purchase and I could just go to work and fix anything should anything go wrong.  all used products are subject to a 90-day defective period before the $30 service contract actually kicks in.  before that 90 day period was over, my store announced it was closing and laid me off (within three days of hearing about the store closure, with no notice since the store was liquidating for a month after the date of my termination, and I stupidly assumed I would have a few weeks to try and find another job) (also, despite us having turned a solid profit in the past year).    I tried to get my ex boss, or even the manager at hollywood to ask the DMs for a refund on my service contract.  all basically threw up their hands, gave me a complaint hotline and said that there was nothing they could do, and that the service contract could still be used at another location (the nearest game crazy being at least 100 miles away).  This is the worst part:  I called the complaint line very soon after all this, and the agent *told me explicitly* that yeah, that's no problem, I gave her my bank info and she said the money would be in my account in about a month.

Then you know what? a month later I get a call at 7 am on a saturday from another agent, who calmly said that I could still use the service contract at another game crazy location, but that they could not issue refunds for service contracts!  I chewed her out, tried to bargain for some compensation, like a new wii that would have a warranty through a stable company like Nintendo, but she essentially kept repeating the same customer-placation BS.  I had no choice but to suck it up and hope I'm heading to Sac when my wii breaks (if by that time they have any stores left at all).
It almost seems like beating a dead horse, but don't shop there.  Let those people find jobs that will appreciate and reward hard work with stability and raises, as opposed to fear mongering, dishonesty and cutthroat competition.

They are nickel-diming people so bad, I heard after I was laid off that I allegedly signed something when I started working there (in 08/08) that voided my right to commissions paid in the period before my termination.  That can't be legal.  My last check from them was for the 6 hour shift+45 minutes it took to terminate me.
On top of that, after being the unpaid assistant manager (you know, performing the duties but being paid like a Shift Lead because they can't afford to promote anyone, just hire people from other companies apparently) and the person who was there the longest other than the store director, I was let go at the same time as the guy we had hired two weeks before.  The actual, inept/semi-retarded SMIT that corporate hired over us from Game Stop was working there for weeks after I got laid off, as well as another co-worker of mine who had a very similar school schedule that restricted our availability.  Of course, that was the reason I was let go early, because my "school schedule was incompatible with the new store hours" like I said, despite another employee having almost the same schedule and about 9 months less experience than I had.  At least I didn't have to apologize to all of our loyal customers and new members who had just purchased MVPs days before who were NOT allowed to get a refund on their $10.  I had a very distinct impression that they wanted to get the only female out first to reduce shrink, since (as it was told to me during LP training) statistically female employees are more likely to steal from their employers, despite the fact that I had worked there for over a year with no complaints, evidence, or even a mention of me stealing or being dishonest (in fact, I caught a lot of shrink!).

Finally, I think unrelated to Hollywood Video Corp, after all of this chaos and subsequent lack of income, I was still denied unemployment benefits, because apparently you can't collect unemployment and be a full-time student too.  Boo to all of them for discriminating against me because of my pursuit of education.
