Hollywood Video My Sons went to rent another movie and was told by the manager that we still had a movie out, "Epic Movie". They told her no it was returned the next day. When they got home I was told what happened and I called to talk to the manager and she told me to check my car that we did not return the movie. I told her she was wrong. We returned it the next day. This happens all the time. Ripoff Indian Trail North Carolina

My sons went to rent another movie at Hollywood Video and was told by the manager that we still had a movie out, "Epic Movie". They told her no it was returned the next day. In fact, both movies were dropped off together, "Epic Movie and Norbit". When they got home I was told what happened and I called to talk to the manager and she told me to check my car that we did not return the movie. I told her she was wrong. We returned it the next day. The movies were rented on June 30 and returned on July 1. This happens all the time. It is rude when a manager tells you to check your car. All the time hollywood employees puts the movies on the shelf and forgets to check in the movies. It does not matter if they are in different states it still happens. When these type of situations happen it causes customer's to go to other store's to rent movies.

God it makes the westchase district and the telephone road and bissonett store in Houston look like beverly hills.

I heard of t-1000 stores but once a week inventory takes that cake, Im sure Loss Prevention was there a lot.

Or maybe they have moved inventory nights from Monthly then Quarterly to Weekly.

Last time I heard they had a Game Inventory a Sell Through Inventory and Rental Inventory. Done on a wednesday and saturday.

No ripoff there. Here's why.

I also used to work for Hollywood Video. I was a shift manager at the one in Chicago Heights, IL. People always came in with excuses. Most of the time they went back home and found the movie. They were too embarrassed to come in because they made a scene about it so they just dropped it in the dropbox.

Also, if it were true that an employee put it on the shelf without scanning it, it would be found within a week. Managers have to stay over night once per week along with a couple scheduled employees to do inventory. That is when we go around the entire store from movie to movie, and other products like soda, and popcorn scanning in each item. If an item is found it would be instantly put back into inventory and the person who had it on their account would be cleared instantly of any late fees, or lost movie charges.

Aside from that, if another person tried to rent the movie and it was found to be checked out already, the employee would be required to call over a manager to do an FOS which stands for "found on shelf" so the person does not get charged for that movie any longer.

It sounds to me like you have nothing but an excuse and want to hurt a companies reputation.

Right or Wrong: Nobody will Ever Know

I am an ex-Hollywood Video employee and I can understand your frustration.

But here is the truth, we hear stories like yours every single night.

Customers have returned:

cases without dvd
dvd without cases
cases torn to shreds by dog, kid, friend, baby tiger, etc.
dvds from different stores 5 miles away, 10 miles, 500 miles

Top reasons why store does not show returned DVDs:
Returned to Blockbuster
Given to another Hollywood Video
Stuck underneath their seat
At a friends house
In their player
In their kids bedroom

DVD check-in is instantaneous. The machine just records the barcode and its show on the screen and recorded. In the years that I have worked there, I have seen ONE justified complaint and that was quickly remedied. When you tell a manager that story, he or she will send someone to check all possible locations in the store for your movie. If it is not there, 99% of the time, you still have it.
