wow. i will try to make this short. I worked for Hollywood Video from 2/2003 to 12/2003. I was loyal and saw many customers get screwed out of money. They will say that if it's not in the computer then the video is not there. But I have searched the store and found several "lost" videos and dvd's for guests who were positive they returned them.

THEY WILL charge your debit or credit card on file after 3 months with no warning! I was suspended by my manager when my ex-landlady made a false complaint about me. I fought it and won (I was paid for the week I missed). I was moved from that store location and forced to drive an hour to work, new, unflexable schedule that forced me to get a babysitter, and was not given a raise to compensate.

When I took work release to have surgery (major surgery), I was told to check in from time to time. Well I certainly did, because I never received my last check (October 6, 2003) and still have not. I called the employee hotline and was never called back. When I filed unemployment, finally, in January 2004, I was told that I was fired on Christmas Eve, 2003 for failing to return to work. I was not off doctor's care at that time.

I am 30 and witnesses several cases of sexual harassment, agism and racism against guests and also prospective employees. Donna Jones, in Rosenberg Texas was the manager who suspended me and ended up making me lose my job. She came to work with no bra and short shorts several times. Before she somehow got the manager job, she was a carnival worker. She brought many of the same tricks with her, believe me... I feel sorry for the customers. The kids behind the counter have your social security number, credit card numbers, id's... and all the power in the world, in their minds.

#8 UPDATE EX-employee responds

No Warning?

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, May 05, 2008

I'm not sure why the poster of this message claims that they will charge credit or debit cards without warning. Assuming the contact information on the account is correct, several phone calls, automated and live, along with reminder cards, rental recovery letters and the such are sent well in advance of the 50 day autocharge. As far as having social security numbers, the company did away with that over a year ago.

#4 UPDATE EX-employee responds

You are right they treat their employees like dirt

AUTHOR: James - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, September 15, 2004

I used to work for Hollywood video and they treat their employees like dirt. There is no such thing as a raise since raises are given from the coporate level and the new close out procedure made by the coporate office cause the closing mod to stay off the clock before finishing the close out procedure. My manager sued the company for screwing her time and I have sued the company for the same reason. There system is outdated by a century and by the way, I have never gotten my 10 min. break.

pS. I started out as a GSR with a friend thinking a video store would be a relaxing place to work...not by a long shot. For all those high school kids out there who is planning to apply, dont be misled. My store made 6000 on a friday night. That is a lot of customers....
