Be warned about Home Depot new return policy.  I made large purchases for the past 2 month and now needed to return some extra materials I no longer need.  I have receipt as well. I returned a few of these  items in the past 4 weeks. Today I tried returning an item with receipt, i was turned down, with no explanation . I called store manager, he was a D%^&k head and did not want to listen, and asked me to call the independent company they have contracted with  to track all returns of customers.
So now I am stuck with a few hundreds of merchandis I have receipt for and can not return. This is unaccptable , unreasonable and wrong..

Home Depot is just one of a growing list of retailers having to take this kind of action to combat serial return offenders.

Some people purchase and item, use it for awhile, like a rental and then return it for a refund.

Very costly for the store,

The retailers contract with private companies to track names, ID's, and details of the returns.

There is a threshold where serial returners are limited on future returns.

The "D%^&k head " store manager was just doing his job in dealing with people who seriously affect their bottom line with abuse of the return policies. BTW, it's not a NEW policy, you just recentlly managed to trigger the "serial returner" threshold.

They pretty much see it, that people doing this aren't worth the revenue loss and hassle.

I'll bet you were a real "gentleman" in dealing with "D%^&k head", right?

HD Returns Policy

I'm a sales associate/cashier that regularly works returns. And yes, I "bleed orange."

The store manager-- whom you so eloquently described as a "d**khead" was only following the new Home Depot returns policy, which only allows a certain number of returns (four) within any 120 day period, with receipt or without a receipt. If you exceed that number, you cannot return merchandise, even if you do have a receipt.  You don't say how many returns you attempted; all you've said is "a few". Well, it was a "few" too many apparently. You say the manager refused to listen, but his hands are tied. He cannot overrule the system, it's up to the third party vendor.

My advice-- listen to the store manager, and call the third party vendor that determines whether the returns are allowed. Keep calm, and don't lose your temper with them. If you have to wait a little while to get your money returned, then do so.
