Purchased an item, the store refused to return it even with the item still in it's original protective plastic packaging.  No one can give a valid reason as to why and the TRE report shows that it was with receipt but they are refusing to return.  They are forcing shoppers into a 90 day' wait before they are elgible for returns, which is conveniently their 90 day policy with receipt.  I believe that Home Depot is forcing consumers into a situation where they have no option but get store credit and spend money in their store.

I think Home Depot should figure out a more customer friendly way to generate business and not hold their custormers hostige.  Pure ripoff.

Unfair return tactics

AUTHOR: Heidi - ()

POSTED: Sunday, April 20, 2014

Elderly couple had a friend replace their garbage disposal. When he did this he unhooked the dishwasher from the drain. He failed to reconnect it after installing the new garbage disposal. When the old folks ran the dishwasher that evening it filled with water but never drained. They figured it was broken so they went to Home Depot and purchased a new one.

Now remember they are old.....Seems like everything needs replacing. They couldn't remember how old the dishwasher was. They just knew they needed one. The elderly get nervous when things aren't going the way they should. A change in routine can be life altering for some. Having strangers, appliance repair people for example, in their home has them on high alert.         The old man couldn't bring the newly purchased dishwasher home in his sedan so delivery was required, and available at an additional cost. When the dishwasher arrived the old couple, having heard nightmare stories of "bait & switch" wanted to make sure they received the purchased item correctly. The delivery guy promptly pulled out his utility knife and cut the box open like a ninga! It was the right one. He had them sign for it and left.

Upon removal of the old dishwasher it was discovered that there was actually nothing wrong with it, the drain hose was still disconnected.

Fast forward. ..Attempting to return unpacked, but hacked up boxed dishwasher, RECEIPT in hand, they were told since the box was open they couldn't return it. No refund, no store credit, no respect. If there was something wrong with it, they would replace it, but since it was never removed from the box and hooked up how would  they know?

The delivery driver didn't know the store policy when he tore the box open. If he did, he failed to inform these 2 sweet old people.   This old gentleman has pride. He takes good care of himself and his wife. He's been honest, loyal, hard working all his life. He's tired. He doesn't have the old spunk. The sales clerk pushed him around like a broom. He walked away feeling sad and defeated. With a brand new dishwasher he didn't need.

Returns...

First, unless stated by law, you are not entitled to a refund. Companies do returns as a COURTESY. Its a pretty straight forward transaction. They have a item and you purchase said item. End of story. ANYTHING beyond that is the company attempting to cater to their customers.

Now we get into YOUR situation. I can tell you right now that whatever information YOU gave them has a RED FLAG on it for return fraud. This means that the information YOU gave them has been used to do FRAUDULENT RETURNS. That is returns without a reciept. Now if YOU have done returns WITHOUT a reciept then this is on you. If you have not done these returns without a reciept, you need to contact Home Depot corporate offices.

Lastly, they do not know if you ACTUALLY purchased the item. You can have a reciept for the same item but the item itself could have been stolen. It is VERY common for thieves to purchase a item then have a freind or buddy go steal the same item. They then return the item with a valid reciept. Thereby getting the item AND their money back. I suspect that is what has happend with you. Im betting they cross referenced their most current inventory results with returns done without a reciept. If there is a item that has been stolen a lot and then returned, then them making you wait is just to ensure YOU were not the thief. Im speculating on that one so dont take it as fact.

Its unfortunate but its the state of our nation. Americans like to think we are better then everyone else, but the fact is that its FULL of scammer and thieves. Integrity and honesty are like sunlight and garlic to a vampire for most American citizens. Americans also like to play the victim. Im betting there is actually more to YOUR side of the story then you are letting on. Returns are a standard for most retail businesses. If yours was declined then there is more going on here. Odds are that you dont wish to tell the entire web the FULL truth because it would invalidate your own post.

Hate to break it to you, but all you can say with ANY accuracy is that YOU are being forced into waiting the 90 days. You have made a blanket statement using ASSUMPTION. You have ASSUMED that Home Depot makes ALL of its customer wait 90 days. So your blasting is PURE exageration.
