My wife and I Decided to have a sunroom built onto our home and made the big mistake of hiring Home-Pro of Florida to build it. We called several different companies and got estimates, which were all close to each other in price. We picked Home-Pro to build it because they were the company with an A- rating from the BBB (Better Buissness Bearu) Their salesman came to our house and showed us pictures of different models they can build. We picked out a color, the one we felt would match the design of our home the best and expressed our need for it to be wheelchair accessible into and out of our home. (I'm disabled) We also wanted the new roof to match our existing roof which had shingles on it, their salesman agreed and said yes to all of our request's (lie). Their contract read that they would do 95% of the work and then collect 95% of the money, their salesman said that meant the job would be finished to our satisfaction,(lie) and that the remaining 5% was all paperwork that they would have to file in order to satisfy the county. (lie) So we agreed on a start and finish date (2 weeks) (lie) and signed their contract. After that we were contacted by another liar from their company (tom) to shedule the work and go over the payment schedule. He said they would install the slab ,walls, and roof and then we would pay 95% the total bill, the remaing work included-electrical, a/c, tile, wheelchair ramps, drywall, baseboard trim. I strongly dissagreed, next he put Dave Houpt on the phone, who said he was the owner and was very pushy and pointed out that we signed a contract and we both needed to move forward. I agreed to pay 50% up front and then 50% upon completion, which he agreed to, problem solved or so i thought. The job started and after 2 weeks they were no where near finished. The concrete floor was way off from level, the color was not the one we picked out, the roof was white metal with bolts sticking out everywhere with globs of caulk trying to cover the bolts. I asked how were they going to put shingles over bolts and they said there were no shingles on their work order, or tile, or drywall, or trim, we said we are not paying a dime more until it's all finished!!!!! Next Dave Houpt calls and gets into a shouting match with my wife and then pulls his guys off the job and shuts the job down. Next his brother Steve calls and says Dave is only one of the owners, and Steve much calmer and appoligizes for his brothers behavior and says he is taking over the job, and the guys will get everything done no problem. I asked about the roof shingles and he said they were'nt on the contract but that his dad, Al Houpt (The Owner) would be out to talk to us about finishing the job. Al then showed up and informed us that we signed a contract that said nothing about shingles or drywall, or tile.We told him that we had discussed that with the salesman and he said he did'nt care what was discussed.  He then said he would put shingles on the roof but would not do any ramps at all. He also wanted a check to pay his guys so they could have christmas, and if we did'nt agree he was going to shut the job down, and go to his attourney and file a lien against our property and start the forclosure process. We then said we have an attourney too and he said "The home owner always looses" and we said we would call the news and he said "Go right ahead, we've built several for their employees, they love us" Long story short, we paid over $40k for a sunroom addition which when Home-Pro was finnished, i had no access to because of no ramps for my wheelchair, has water leaks and was poorly built. DO YOURSELF A REAL BIG FAVOR AND DO NOT HIRE ANY COMPANY BASED ON THE BETTER BUSSINESS BEAURA, COMPANIES PAY TO BE A MEMBER AND THE BBB PROTECTS THEM BY HIDING THEIR COMPLAINTS LIKE THIS ONE. HOME-PRO IS A RIPP OFF COMPANY- PLEASE TELL EVERY ONE YOU KNOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Response to previous customer

AUTHOR: HomePro - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, May 16, 2012

Home Pro would like to respond to the inaccurate and libelous statements made on this site by Mr. Herman Dennis:

Mr. Dennis claims he was lied to about being able to pick a color to match his home, but he did pick a color to match, and the color he picked was white. It later became evident that another color, sandstone, would match better and a change order was filled out and the change made.

Mr. Dennis claims that his roof was to be shingled; however the contract has nothing about shingles on it. Home Pro added the shingles onto the project at no cost to the customer. Mr. Dennis also wanted extra drywall done which, again, was not in the contract, but Home Pro added it to the project free of charge as well.

Mr. Dennis claims that he was not aware of what work would be completed before 95% of the contract amount was to be collected, however, he signed and was given a copy of the pay schedule which specifically lists what is to be completed at each point in the process.

Mr. Dennis claims that he was told his project would be completed in two weeks. The contract was signed on October 1, 1010 and an approximate lead time of December 20, 2010 was clearly marked on the contract. That is not two weeks.

Mr. Dennis says that his concrete was not level, which is initially true. Once this was discovered it was leveled and passed inspection. He also claims the concrete wasnt the color he wanted. Concrete color was not an option and he wanted the room tiled so concrete color should not have mattered. Tile work was clearly on the contract, of which he had a copy, contrary to his claim that he was told it was not.

Mr. Dennis states that his room had a leak. This sometimes happens with room additions since they are tied into the existing home. Many times leaks are not apparent until it rains. His leak was found, sealed and any water damage repaired.

Mr. Dennis claims that Home Pro left him without a wheel chair ramp. The contract included a small ramp; however, Mr. Dennis and his wife insisted that Home Pro install an extensive ramp system at no extra charge. While this was disputed, it was discussed that work might need to be suspended since it would be unclear how the crew was to proceed until this dispute was resolved. Ultimately, an agreement could not be reached and Mr. Dennis signed a change order removing the ramp completely from the project and $700 was taken off the contract price.

The claims made about what Mr. Al Houpt allegedly said to Mr. Dennis when he visited the job site were vehemently denied by Mr. Houpt upon reading this post.

The Home Pro team strives to give our customers the best customer service possible and to work with our customers to insure their satisfaction with their building project. We regret that Mr. Dennis is unhappy with his experience; however, the majority of what he has posted on this site is untrue and much of his displeasure could have been alleviated if he had read his contract and accompanying paper work completely. Home Pro has turned this issue over to its attorney and intends to defend itself against any further libelous statements from Mr. Dennis.
