I was charged $90 USD for a bottle of wine that I could purchase in the United States for $13 USD.  This bottle of wine would wholesale for less than $6 USD.  This is at least 15 times wholesale markup where industry standard is 3 times.

I emailed the restaurant about this.  I received a reply from the restaurant manager Nannaphat Kaewngam and she stated that the price of this wine is “consistent with our pricing strategy.”   I get that the Horizon Restaurant / Hilton Pattaya is in the business to make money but I have a problem with being grossly overcharged for a bottle of wine, especially given the fact that I’m dining at a 5 star hotel and would expect a bottle of wine of decent quality for $90 USD.

I disputed this charge on my credit card.  During the dispute, the merchant aka Horizon Restaurant & Bar at the Hilton Pattaya Hotel submitted 2 signed receipts to my credit card company and the signatures did NOT match.  One of the signed receipts was NOT my signature and I did NOT authorize anyone to sign my name.

I sent emails to 4 different staff members at the Hilton Pattaya about this and received NO response.  I then emailed Hilton corporate in USA.  I received a response from Martin Sieland, Director of Finance for Hilton Pattaya.  Mr. Sieland stated “apologies for that I am only responding to you now” and “I was unable to identify any irregularity in the process of this payment.”  I then emailed Rudolf Troestler, General Manager for Hilton Pattaya.  Mr. Troestler stated “we believe we are compliant with all the process accordingly.”

Mr. Troestler has also stated "in addition, in reference to the disputed credit card charge, the slip was signed by yourself at that time, which means that you agreed with the total bill and payment."  I did sign one of the receipts.  However, his organization submitted 2 signed receipts to my credit card company during the credit card dispute process.  One of the signed receipts was NOT signed by me and I did NOT authorize anyone to sign my name.  My credit card company told me that they could NOT continue my dispute unless they received a statement from the merchant aka Horizon Restaurant & Bar at the Hilton Pattaya Hotel that one of the receipts was NOT signed by me.
