Horizon Services Heating and Air Conditioning Used carbon monoxide scam to force us to replace furnace. Windsor Mill Maryland

 We scheduled a maintenance check on our gas, forced-air furnace because it had not been looked at for a very long time. The technician sent by Horizon Services did not inspire confidence. His English was barely understandable, if at all. His equipment appeared held together with duct tape, and battery failed on his camera probe. I was mildly shocked when he produced a drill and proceeded to drill a hole in a pipe coming from the furnace. He then inserted a monitor into the hole, and proclaimed his astonishment at the incredibly high carbon monoxide level that registered. The tech said the CO level was dangerous, and the furnace should be replaced immediately. I smelled a rat. After he left, we scheduled another assessment with another company the same day. The tech from the second company informed us that the Horizon tech had drilled a hole in the exhaust pipe of the furnace, which vented waste gases to the outside. The Horizon tech was attempting to scare us into buying a new system. As it turned out, we do need a new system, but we're not in danger of dying from carbon monoxide poisoning. The scam by the Horizon tech was fraud, pure and simple. I have to wonder how many folks have been scared into replacing their systems who didn't really need one.
