HP Computers And Norton Anti Virus After buying a laptop, in March, I still have no Anti Virus protection that works... I had to sit on the phone and assit for 30 hours or so.. I could not understand the Technician... ever... and to top it off, every time I call , they say for a small fee, you can get help on your Pc faster... More or Less, I was told I had a year free support, but IF I WANT THE FREE SUPPORT, I HAVE TO WAIT.... 20330 Stevens Creen Blvd California

*Consumer Comment: Unfortunate.

Show customers why they should trust your business over your competitors...

I kind of wrote it all above, but I am looking for a lawyer or anyone to help me.. If this is not a Rip Off.. I don't know what qualifies for one...
What part of Free do they not understand... I love the part, if you want the help for free, you have to wait for hours and listen to sick music...
Also, I got a computer to make my life easier, why is it that since March, when I order the Norton, which at the time, I was told would only take 20 minutes to still is not working.... and not to mention all my time.. I sat for days helping technician after techinician.. sometimes technicians from both places... where is the justice in that...

You don't indicate whether you acquired Norton WITH the computer (preinstalled bundle) or AFTER you received the computer.

If it came bundled with your computer, someone at HP should provide tech support to resolve this.

If you purchased and installed Norton AFTER you received the computer, then support falls to NORTON to resolve this.

I know this doesn't really help you but the first step is to correctly determine WHO needs to provide the tech support you need. When software is bundled on a new system from an OEM (HP in this case) tech support is normally by the system maker.

Retail or after market purchased software is supported by the company that produces the software (Norton.)

I understand your delemma. You might need to have someone experienced with computer issues (such as myself) evaluate your system and remove the NORTON software (without using any recovery disks from HP.) This would maintain your data.

Another option is for you is to restore your computer to it's original "out of the box" condition usinge the restore disks that came with your computer. If no disks came with the system, the HP tech support should be able to instruct you or someone else on how to accomplish this. However, this method may reformat your hard drive and reinstalls all bundled software/drivers but the reformatting process (if accomplished) eliminates your data.

It is also possible that your system is corrupted by viruses and that issue needs to be addressed as well. A reformat of the hard drive and a complete reinstallation of the bundled software from the OEM should cure any viruses you might have.

Good luck to you.
