I contacted H&R Block because I had some questions about my tax return, before having them prepare it for me. On 6/22/2012 I went in to the office and met with Dayna Adams (aka Danna) at H&R Block Premium. I first asked if '10 repairs to an income property could be included as deductions and baseline value depreciations in my 2011 tax return. After discussing my situation and looking over my documents, she promised me she could include them ('10 repairs & improvements) in my 2011 year tax return. She told me it would take a little time to add them in and she assured me they'd be done on 6/25, in three days. Before I left her office she requestd I provide her a few more items so that she could complete the tax return. After leaving her office I went home and scanned and made a made a detailed pdf with a detailed title page of all that was included in the PDF.

Over the next few weeks I left many phone messages & emails, with no response. I finally made contact after 3 weeks, I was planning on picking up my documents and moving- on due to her lack of professionalism. However, she apologized and assured they would be done the next day. Finally, a week and a few more unanswered calls/emails later, she contacted me needing the social security number for my infant son. I emailed it right over and told her it was included in the orig 6/22 pdf which I had e-mailed her. She contacted me a couple more times requesting information that she already had in her possession.

Then, no response for another couple weeks. This was enough to cut all ties, except she had the hard copies off all my tax papers. To further complicate the issue, I had a medical emergency in late July,  in which I lost my vision. I spent so much time at the hospital and doctors offices that getting my tax return done took a back seat to my health. Then late one night my family and I were awoken to an unknown phone call. It was Dayna Adams calling to let us know she was almost done (a week passed before she finished on 8/3).

My wife was working the day she called for me to pick up my tax return, so (being that I had at that point 20/300 vision in both eyes, three pairs of glasses and I was medicated and my eyes constantly dilated, I could not read or drive a car) I walked over to her office. In the end, she didn't add any of the deductions promised. She told me to keep the file of repairs and improvements, for my records in a safe place.  Problem is the main reason I agreed to have her prepare my taxes was because she promised she could add these deductions in!
1)She promised she would include the deductions-she did not.
2) The speed in which she promised to get them done- 3days... took 45 days!. Neither promise was
fulfilled.
I told her I would not be filing the taxes she prepared and asked for my docs back and she charged $850.00 anyway. I told her I could not see and I was on medications, so judgeing by what she told me, I told her I did not approve and not to file anything and that I wanted my tax documents back. I told her my wife would would not approve either. She told me told I had to pay and that she'd discount it. So she charged me $850.00! Even after I told her I only wanted my paperwork back none of her tax preparation. In all the confusion I reluctantly wrote her a check, she then told me it was not all lost because I could use the $850.00 as a write off next year, even if I did not get any tax preparation documents from her, I just needed the receipt.
