The Rapid Refund scam & False advertisment!

H&R Block states in there advertisments that you can walk in with your taxes and walk out with a check! This is untrue!

You can file the rapid refund inwich they charge you extra money for. with getting taxes done and the refund the amount is $189.oo

You are never able to get the full refund back in just one check!! But they are sure to take out there money.

You get the first check of half of your money with in 2 days!! But The second half They say will take 10 days! This is A LIE!!

It is going on 20 days Now!

Called the IRS to find out what was going on
AND they are telling me that it will take 3-4 weeks
Before I will get The Second check. Now I ask you

How is that or How can they call that a Rapid Refund?
I filed my state at the same time and already got that
check back!!

But still I sit and wait for the So Called Rapid Refund.

Problem Resolved

AUTHOR: Martin - (Canada)

POSTED: Thursday, May 29, 2003

I said in my comment above that I would post again and, in fairness to H&R Block, they have been honest to admit that I was wrongly advised and will be refunded for fees paid.

I guess persistence is the key.

Tax Return Frustration!!!

AUTHOR: Martin - (Canada)

POSTED: Saturday, May 24, 2003

I won't name names or individuals at the moment as my wife and I are still hoping for a resolution to our complaint, but we are absolutely annoyed at the 'advice' from these 'professionals'.

Since we are from the UK and the taxation system is completely different to Canada and US, we were eager to ensure that our first tax returns were done properly and efficiently.

Since the culture here seems to be that everyone does their returns at the last minute, we thought we would try and be (relatively) prompt so our return didn't get lost in the black hole of Revenue Canada.

We read around the topic of personal taxation, bought a step by step guide, and sat and compared calculations with fellow naive Brits.

Enter stage left... H&R Block!!!

My wife went along to a local office where they would provide a 'free look' at our calculations.

Great...our forms were virtually spot on.

Even better...Block's would 'e-file' our return to Revenue Canada for a fee of approx $100 cdn. Our return would be processed in 15 working days...we would have cold hard cash back in our hands before most Vancouverites had even ordered another Starbucks

Now please Mr/Mrs Block, why do we have a receipt from March 17th and we are still waiting for our return?

Why Mr/Mrs Block did you not inform us that our return could not be 'e-filed' as we were new immigrants?

Why Mr/Mrs Block has my wife been told it can be 'e-filed'? (Who's right/who's wrong?)

Why Mr/Mrs Block have we been engaged in phone calls all week with you and nobody will take responsibility?

I thought North Americans percieved the UK as being at the bottom when it comes to customer service. Even I think you've sunk below this.

Mr/Mrs Block...we've asked for our money back...does nobody have the balls to make a decision on this?

(I will, because of my sense of 'fair play', post again if Mom and Pop Block quickly resolve our issues.}

Nicely PUT

AUTHOR: Tara - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, May 01, 2003

Very well put Maria, I am an Income tax preparer with Amscot & people don't understand that we really have no control of the banks decision.
You are exactly right Maria, the reason why we are income tax preparers is because somebody has to file taxes for the public.

#1 UPDATE EX-employee responds

sorry about your discomfort, just relax and let H&R do your tax

AUTHOR: Maria - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, March 01, 2003

H&R block is not lieing about walking in to do your taxes and walking out with a check, there is such a program called instant money now but its up to the bank to decide if you qualify for it or not at the time you do your taxes, also the rapid refund bank loan, you must remember, that it is a bank loan and not directly money from irs, this bank has the right to refuse your loan or approve it, is just like when you apply for a loan from a home bank or loan lender, they decide if you qualify or not, they charge you interest and finance charges if your approved and rapid refund also charges you a fee but not interest or finance charge because they immediately issue you a check and you dont have to worry about many months to pay them back, so they have to charge you those rapid fees because you get your money in the fastes amount of time, which is usually two to three days and yes sometimes you get a secound check in fourteen to seventeen days because the rest of your refund is problably earn income credit money and because of so much fraud the bank turn over this part to irs to check out your return to see if it is a false or correct tax return and if the irs does not find in it any fraud, then they release to you the rest of your money within this time frame, unless there is a problem then they hold it and send you a letter for you to send them more information on your dependants or your living situation in other words you get audit and you have to prove to them your filing status and then after that, if they are satisfied they release to you your money.remember you choose which way you file your return, you have a choice to send it in the mail and wait six weeks or do it rapid and get most of your money pretty quickly, but please dont blame the tax offices who are experience in tax preparation just because a bank let you down, they only submit your information to these banks and after that you have to be patient in the way it turns out for you, hopefully next year it wont happen to you, but dont critize tax preparers because you are only making it bad for your self because you have to continue to use them to file your taxes unless you know how to do them yourself, the cheapest way to go is to pay up front the preparation fee and have your money direct deposited into your account for no additional bank charges and you will have your money in twenty one days or less, and remember you have to be charge for having your taxes done because the company has to pay their preparers and the cost of running an office, but there is volunteer services called VITA THAT MAY NOT CHARGE YOU ANYTHING FOR DOING YOUR RETURN.
