When signing up for a Credit Card PLEASE READ all information carefully! A few years ago I signed up for a Credit Card. I was notified that they had denied my application so I went on with my life figuring that nothing would happen. Unfortunately a couple of monthes later I received a bill in the mail from HSBC for a annual fee charge for a credit card. First of all I never signed up for this card. Second I never received this card. And Third the name for the account holder was not correct. They had a different First name & Middle Initial.

So I called the company to ask what was going on. They informed me that the credit card I had signed up for earlier was affiliated with HSBC and when that Credit Card Company Denied my application, they gave my app to HSBC and they in turn approved me for a credit card. I told Customer Service that I never signed up for this card, was never given any information about an annual fee, or given a credit card, and that the name on the card was misspelled. I told her that I did not want this card because it was not what I had initally signed up for. She asssured me that they would cancel the card and erase the annual fee charge.

A month later I received another bill in the mail with a late fee added on. Once again I called and explained the information and was assured that everything would be taken care of. I also wanted to make sure that this would not affect my credit score. Another month went by and I received yet another bill with another late fee. I called again to explain the situation and stated that I wanted a written letter stating that the account was closed and fees were erased. I was once again assured that everything would get taken care of. (with each person I spoke to each time, I was treated very rudely. Also none of them could speak english very well at all) This went on for another couple of monthes before It was FINALLY resolved. I do not know however, if my credit score was affected although I'm sure that it was......

The thing that really got me throughout this whole ordeal, was the fact that they did not even have my correct name on the credit account, as well as the fact that I received no notice or card in the mail to alert me that I had been signed up for a different Credit Card. How can companys get away with this sneaky behavior???
