On February 10, 2012, I ordered the internet service that the company Hughes Net had been advertising on TV. The day of the installation a man appeared at my door that did not look very professional and I wondered if it was safe to let him in. But I did and signed all the paperwork and he went to find a place to put it up. He came back and said he had to put it up on a building and all I had was a wooden storage building I had just bought. I told him ok to put it on the side of it. Little did I know that when he was finished I had a dish and equipment that made my place look like NASA.

So now my two year agreement is up and I call to cancel. After going through several people I finally reach a young lady who took all the information to cancel. She talked so fast I could barely keep up with what she was saying but at the end of her speech I caught the words "return the modal at the end of the dish." I am a older woman and ask her how she expected me to climb up on the dish to take this down plus how was I going to get all this "junk" off my building. She replied that if I did not send back the item I would be charged for it.

None of this is told to you before they come out nor is it on their web site when you are reading about it before you order. Older people BEWARE this is not the "grand" service they profess on the commercial or the web site. You will not be happy with the service nor the equipment.

I agree and think you are on to something

You're exactly right and everyone I know who has HughesNet says the same thing--the bandwidth usage doesn't match the allotment and often there seems to be no rhyme or reason to it.  No matter how much or how little I use, it always seems to run out fifteen days into the month and I become angry.  Do we really get what we pay for?  How do we know for sure when the only way to check is by using their software?

LOL Thanks "Rusty Nails" for your remark. I feel this person must has some "dealings" with Hughes Net. Their fingers must be sore from remarking on all the negative remarks on Hughes Net on this site. I don't intend to put one more dollar into anything to do with Hughes Net. Oh, it will get down and sent back and whatever it does cost I intend to get back off the dish and the rest of the "crap" that is left.

I think you just can't find anything else to do but go to these sites and put your two cents in. And you can take your "church" people and shove em. I wouldn't let them on my property. They would steal me blind! Find something worth while to do with your time besides give advise to someone who doesn't care to hear it. Look at the number  of reports here against Hughes Net! Doesn't that tell you something ?

Do it yourself or...

You can do it yourself or pay to have someone do it. This isnt a ripoff, you cancelled your services and they want THEIR equiptment back. Thats all. Youre telling everyone on the web that you have NO ONE who can assist you with maybe 10 mins of work?? I find that HIGHLY DOUBTFUL. As an "elderly lady" youre going to sit there and tell the whole web going public that you have no kids of your own to help you, or that you couldnt hire one of the local kids in your area for maybe $10-$20 bucks to remove some screws? Do you attend a church?? Im sure someone there could help you out. Push comes to shove, look in the phone book for a HANDYMAN service and pay them to remove it. OR have hughes send someone out and pay the $100+ service call. You have options. Youre just complaing to complain that they are making a "elderly person" do what EVERY OTHER CUSTOMER has to do. Are you going to WHINE about having to send it back too??

Youre supposed to be the WISE one. Why do you not use the benifit of ALL YOUR YEARS. Make some cookies and lemonaid and ASK FOR HELP!!!! People should want to help you out as you are elderly. Sometimes you have to sweeten the pot by giving a little cash or just doing something nice like sending home a plate of cookies. You are part of a community and a very important part. You need to stop hiding behind your "elderly" status and start using it to benifit yourself. You have lived this long its time you get a little something back. ASK FOR HELP!!!! It doesnt make you "weak" or "useless" to ask for help at your age.
