I have read many reports about HughesNet and their bad internet connection, but I have not experienced this. The reason is because I have never subscribed to them or requested their services but now have a bill for $300 from them.

I had never even heard of HughesNet until a couple of weeks ago when I received a bill from them for $245. I called them to ask what service they provide and what my bill was for and they told me it was for satellite internet. There are a few things very wrong with this.
1. I never requested ANY service from them (I was in Europe when they said the request was made).
2. I cannot receive satellite in the canyon I live in, therefore their services would be useless.
3. I already have DSL from Quest.
4. HughesNet service representatives have admitted that even though the request was supposedly made two months ago, no one has been to my house to set it up and I have never received any service from them.

Needless to say, when I called HughesNet I was hung-up on the first two times and was treated rudely on the third call. HughesNet informed me that they had sent my bill to collections (I had recieved it the week before, suspicious?, I think so!). They gave me a number for the collection agency. When I called it I got a Mazda dealership. I called HughesNet again and got a real number for the collection agency who told me they couldn't do anything for a few days.

Today I recieved another bill from HughesNet, this time for $300. I called back, was on hold for 65 minutes and was told that the billing office couldn't do anything and that my account was being "upgraded". They say they will call back in 3-5 business days, but I'm not holding my breath.

I called the collection agency today and the number had been disconnected. So I called HughesNet again and they said that that wasn't possible. I asked for the agency name and they said it was NCO. He didn't know what that stood for or where they are based, so I couldn't call 411. I googled NCO and found a website and phone number for them (different than the number HughesNet gave me). I called four times and was hung-up on every time after I explained my situation. On my fifth call the number rang (not on hold, rang) for five minutes before I hung up. HughesNet obviously employs collection agencies as corrupt as they are.

Another thing that is terrible (and ILLEGAL) about this is that I don't know where they got my information to bill me. I will gladly do anything in my power to expose these scam artist for the complete crooks that they really are.
