I beleive that Huron Law Group is exploiting elderly people.  Huron signed my 85 year old mother up for a debt relief program two years ago. She had an Credit Card debt of approimatetly 27,000.00.  The program that they had her sign up for cost 18,000.00.  They basically told her that she would deposit 489.00 in a holding account while they negoiated getting her Credit Card debt reduced.  She deposited funds for 2 years totaling over 10,000.00. My sister and I did not find out about the debt until she came to live with us.  We sat down with my mother and called the holding company to discuss how much money my mother had deposited and how much were the attorney fees.  Huron took out over $6,000 in attorneys fees and $75.00 monthly administrative. After we received this information I called the Attorney and spoke with the Paralegal.  I asked several questions as why they didn't advice on Bankruptcy since that only cost about 1800.00 or why didn't they tell her that since she only has Social Secuirty that her wages  that the credit card company couldn't be garnish her income.

This company did not give proper credit counseling and took advantage of an elderly lady on a fixed income of less than 1600 and month.

Shame on them....

AUTHOR: HLG Law Firm - ()

POSTED: Monday, June 16, 2014

HLG does not target the elderly in its marketing.  For individuals seeking a resolution to their debt issues, the intake team attempts to determine if the individual maintains a high balance of debt, if the individual is having difficulty managing the debt, if the debts qualify and if the individual is interested in hiring our firm to help manage the debt.

The complainant is correct in that HLG is a for profit law firm that charges a fee for its services.  The cost of our representation was never hidden, and the fees are clearly detailed in the "fees" section of the retainer agreement and elsewhere.  It can takes years of representation to resolve a client's outstanding debts and HLG charges for its services and representation, as you would expect from any law firm.  While we cannot guarantee a particular outcome in any particular situation, HLG has a proven track record of positive results for its clients that also takes into account the fees HLG charges for its services.

If your mother has concerns regarding our continued representation, we would be happy to speak to her to resolve those issues.
