Through Discover Card's cashback bonus I purchased a $100 certificate off of a two night stay at Hyatt. I actually paid $40 from my cashback award for this offer. The terms and conditions seemed reasonable like you can't combine with other offers etc. What they don't tell you in the terms online until you get the certificate or try to make a reservation is that you have to use their 'prevailing rates' meaning no Expedia, no rates that you would normally pay through their normal published rates. So basically I paid $40 for the right to be charged more than an extra hundred dollars for a room for 2 nights so that I can have $100 knocked off of an inflated price which nets me out of pocket even more than if I had just gone through Expedia or Travelocity in the first place.

Being a preferred customer with Discover (who always takes care of me) I am confident I will have this resolved, and don't want to implicate Discover. They already have put in an email to try to get my cashback award reposted, but I felt it necessary to warn people to avoid the HDC174 offer from Hyatt. It is a scam.
