So I order a computer from ibuypower's website in early August.  It runs me $1900, and according to their website, can run any existing game at its highest graphics setting.

Mid-September comes around, they've taken my money, but their website still says that they are gathering the parts to build it.  Since it's been over a month, I give them a call, and after shuffling me around for a bit, they tell me that their servers went down right after I ordered mine, and so they have a big backlog.  Shortly thereafter, the status says they have all of the parts, but the computer doesn't actually get assembled and shipped until early October.

I finally get the computer, take it home, start it up, and immediately notice that it can't even run World of Warcraft at a higher graphics setting than the 3 year old computer I already had could (which was only "good").  Also, the computer would continuously shut down whatever game I was playing after about an hour, at which point it would shut down more and more frequently until I got a blue screen of death.

So I call up one of the game manufacturers, thinking that the problem must be the game.  They run through a few questions, and then have me look up the video card that's installed.  Instead of the $500 video card I ordered, they gave me a video card that normally goes in a business computer, and the installed driver software is two years out of date.

So I go to Intel's website to get the newest driver, and it says that my brand new supposedly awesome gaming computer does not meet the minimum requirements to install the new driver (note: the new driver was itself 9 months old).

Quite irritated, I call up ibuypower, get shuffled around for an hour between people who try to tell me that it's normal for a gaming computer to not be able to run any games, and then they finally tell me that I have a few days left on my 30 money back guarantee, so I can get my money back minus the shipping, but they'd rather have me take it to get worked on.

I could see where this was going: have me put it in a shop until the 30 day window closed, and then I'd be stuck with the thing.  So I opted to just plain return it.  They told me it would be 7-10 business days from when they received the computer before they would give me my refund.

So I ship it back via certified mail, so I know what day they get it back.  10 business days after that date, still no refund, so I call them.  Get shuffled around for a while, then finally learn that their quality control people had to inspect the laptop before they could refund my money, and they spent four days doing that.  So 10 business days after they had gotten it back, I was only 6 days into the refund process.  I asked why quality control hadn't looked at the laptop BEFORE it shipped, and if their inspection discovered that they had installed the wrong video card but still charged me the full price.  The lady on the phone said she didn't have any notes about that, but she could "expedite" my refund if I wanted.  I said yes, then spent ten minutes on hold while she "expedited" the refund.

Five more business days go by, no refund.  I call them again, get shuffled around, and then they blame it on my bank.  I said that it didn't take 7-10 business days for them to take my money, it shouldn't take that long to give it back, and they hung up on me.  So I call my bank, nothing is pending on that account.  I call ibuypower again to call them on their bulls**t.  They hang up on me again.

Finally, 22 days after they got my computer back, they gave me my refund.

If you are looking for a good gaming computer, I recommend you go with somebody OTHER than ibuypower, or if you do order from them, make sure you check the computer when it arrives to make sure you have all of the right hardware, because they apparently will not hesitate to substitute the expensive equipment you ordered with something a whole lot cheaper and wholly ineffective.
