I live in iowa. I am from IL. I thought I hated Iowa but now my home state is messed up with thier little scam of i-pass. You know d**n well they change the lanes at the last minute and never tell you how much the toll is. By the time you get your money out. Oops. You already went through i-pass. I got 7 violations. Plus thier d**n fines. What a scum/scam state. Suspend me then. I am not paying.

If you paid for a toll violation and they still charged you a $20 fine you can bring it to the attention of the tollway when you call in and they can look up their data base and dismiss the fine, so long as you mention it. Actually a policy now states that even if you already paid for a violation and you had GPT's for that violation you are still entitled to a possible refund. If you have proof of payment (many times even without it) they can go back to your notice and find this info, I work the violations section of the Toll administration Building and I can assure you there is no penalty or fees for paying Grace period tolls.

It must be a punishment from being out of state.
I tried to pay once online and got a 20 dollar charge. I tried the day after I missed the toll.

I understand from time to time if your not from here you don't know where tolls are but you still have time to respond if one is coming up, and how do they penalize you for online toll payments? I've made toll payments and have never been charged more then my tolls

Dear Wheaton Resident. I understand what you are saying. However when somebody is not used to having a toll every 10 miles. We are not looking for them. Also one mile on an interstate is not even a minute.
They also do not tell you the amount of the toll until right before the toll. Back when I lived in IL. ALL tolls were .40 cents except for exits. Then they added 355 which was a little more. Then of course the I-pass. Now everything went up.
What used to be a one dollar and sixty cent trip is now 12 dollars and they make it so an out of towner gets screwed up and has to pay a fine. And yes they do penalize you if you try to pay online. I have already been there.

I'm confused at your complaint here, I understand that you missed the toll, perhaps you weren't paying attention to the road signs or you were unaware of where you were going, but the signs are posted 1 mile before every toll booth and if you don't have enough or you miss the toll booth you still have time to go online and make a payment for your tolls. I don't think it's a scam it sounds to me like you simply didn't pay your tolls and you got fined for it. Not honestly sure why people try this when there are camera's on the tollway yet everyday people continue to attempt to run through the tollway and never provide a payment.
