In Demand direct marketing, pyramid scheme, commission, management, training Internet
This company, called In Demand, (this office was particularly named In Demand Miami based on the region) is a multi-level marketing company. They practice "direct marketing" for "campaigns" they are branding for with the intention to "drive foot traffic" for various Fortune 500 companies. What this really means is that this company makes short term deals with various companies to sell their products door to door. There is no demographic research or skills needed to engage in this business practice. You may ask why these details sound questionable. Here I will explain to you my experience during the shadowing orientation which will further shed light:
* The product that was currently being sold were discounted tickets for the Miami Marlins, apparently contracted by the company themself. Apparently we were also the sole top marketing company to work with them.
* The company pays minimal during the 6 days of training session, about $300 for your time and devotion. This is below minimum wage legally.
* The first level of your employment is solely commission based. I was not told very much information about this and how moving up the ladder works. I was basically told the more money you bring into the company, and once you "develop your team" (aka once the company has recruited more opportunists) the more you will move up the ladder.
* The "complex sales tactic" that needed to be thoroughly trained is really the seller's aggressive tactic to make people pressured to buy their product. I was told up front that aggressive sales is not their intention, however, observing the 150 potential consumers we approached, it was quite clear it was aggressive. The sales pitch was in no way altered to fit the consumer, nor was the tactic effective. We made 1 sell. That means we spent 10 hours selling 1 $40 product.
* Absolutely no research is done on the potential consumer. The manager training me didn't even take a second to consider whether or not the potential consumer could afford the product. I also caught the trainer on multiple occassions blatelently lying to the consumer, claiming that "the previous person we approached just bought a couple ticket packets" "this offer is only for today" "I'm not able to come back later today", etc. It was quite clear that the sole intention was to make a quick sell and nothing more. The consumer's needs or satisfactions are not in mind.
My experience basically led me to believe this company is associated with deceitful, unethical, and borderline illegal business practices. This company targets young, optimistic, entreprenurial mindset individuals who are looking to devote their time to develop sales and business skills. My advice to you is to stay as far away as possible from any companies that remotely sound similar to this. These businesses are collapsable and do not last long. Do not waste your time.
