It has come to our attention that some of you may be involved with, or taking acting classes from an outfit called Indie SOS Actor Collective. We want to caution all Remington and Yellow Rose actors that we have not reviewed their curriculum or acting techniques, or coaching methods. And there have been numerous complaints aired against them by our actors, spanning inappropriate behavior, poor or out-dated techniques, and the fact that all students must sign a Confidentiality Agreement before taking classes! A confidentiality agreement for acting classes? I have never heard of such a thing



An 18-year-old female claims the advanced acting classes went further with "advanced inhibition release." "He told us if we wanted to be actors, we had to learn to relax with nudity because there's a lot of nudity in Hollywood. We would be naked and blindfolded and told to touch each other."



The students say they were told by Sofer not to discuss on the outside what went on during class. Everyone went along until Sofer, according to the students, began going too far.





Also, this instructor named Yehoshua Sofer, whom they bill as acting coach, producer and director. A quick IMDB check on him shows no directing credits listed. He is listed as an Associate Producer on a very, very low budget indie-film called Presence of Darkness, which appears to have been shot in Nevada, not Hollywood. This distinction is made simply to let you know that, while my main concern is that you get training, we want to make sure the training you get is teaching the current trend, styles and techniques being used successfully today in Hollywood not in Nevada!



Sofers second IMDB credit is a listing as an Actor in The Golden Pomegranate, in a very small bit-part. There is almost no information listed for this film, which is usually an indicator that it is also a low-budget indie-film, no theatrical release, and very low ratings on IMDB.



The bottom line is this: Neither Remington nor Yellow Rose Talent endorse nor approve of Indie SOS Actor Collective, or its instructors or techniques. There have been rumors of complaints, and inappropriate classroom behavior, and the fact that they require a Confidentiality Agreement before an actor can take classes is highly suspect. PLEASE use extreme caution if you choose to take classes from them, and bear in mind that what you are paying for may be just a waste of your time and money.



If you intend to take classes from these people, please get enough information to make an informed decision. Check experience and/or instructor certification of any instructors or coaches. Do they have a degree in film? Where is it obtained? Do they have a teaching certificate? What methods are they teaching? Are those methods based on current LA techniques? And check out any claims they make about Producing or Directing on IMDB! Anyone can SAY they are a producer, but IMDB will tell the whole story!



And no actor should ever, ever, ever be asked to take off their clothes for an acting class! If a school, or instructor asks you to (or in any way implies that you will get better scores if you do) remove clothing as part of an acting class, the only one benefiting from that is the pervert who asked you to do it! RUN, do not walk, away from there as fast as you can!!



And if you are offered free classes, it is probably worth every penny you pay!



If any of you are taking classes with Yehoshua Josh Sofer, or you just have questions about some of the reported misconduct, or other allegations, we have a file of newspaper and internet clippings that prove to be interesting reading. Apparently Indie SOS Actor Collective is just the latest in a string of Actor Groups that Sofer has been attached to.



And before the question is asked, Remington/Yellow Rose has no axe to grind with Indie SOS, and the purpose of this is not to get back at them for any wrong. It is just YOUR agent doing our job and protecting all our clients from any scams or rip-offs, no matter what the forum. Some of our people have had dealings with them, and since nearly all have complained, I just want to send out a general notice to all our actors, before serious harm is done.



At Remington/Yellow Rose, we strongly endorse the Hollywood Bound Acting Academy. We have checked out the instructors, the curriculum, and the certification of this school. We are convinced they teach current methods being used in LA, and will get any of their students ready to compete in the LA market.
