In spring break of 2005 I and 8 other friends decided to go on spring break. We looked around and found inertia tours to be the cheapest for what we were looking for. It turned out there was a reason for it. To start off, they were SIX HOURS LATE picking our group up from the airport. When we finally did get to the hotel it was a jungle and they had double booked several rooms therefore making the process take another FIVE hours. So right there we wasted an entire day almost of our spring break.

Also promised in the package were 21 free meals. As it turns out, 15 of these are for breakfast(between 7-9 a.m) and the place to which redeem them was SIX MILES away. First of all, who gets up that early on spring break, secondly how would they get there? Now on to lunch. The lunch's provided were not only some of the worst food I have ever had but it took hours to get it and the portion was barely enough for a small child. And on top of that you HAD TO pay atleast a three dollar "tip", so the meal were nowhere near being free.

So finally our trip was all said and done. We cleaned our condo, which was destroyed when we got there, and returned it to a very clean place. After turning in our key and talking to staff we were then informed that our place looked very good and would get our depost back within a couple weeks. Weeks went by and nothing came so we tried to call, BUT INERTIA WAS NOWHERE TO BE FOUND. From what i can gather they must take everyones money and just dissapear until next years spring break. None of the numbers worked no was there an internet site anymore. They completely vanished. All and all it was a horrible trip and several hundred dollars wasted because of Inertia Tours.

In response to your rebuttal, I think it is first of all petty of you to ditract from the issues and waste time on discussing the exact number of meals and number of them, etc... Secondly, our group booked several months in advanced and yes we did look over your elementary "know before you go" suggestions. I hope you do realize we are college students, and some of us graduated, therefore I do believe that things so difficult as finding transportation from the airport to the hotel arent to much of a problem.
As you also said in your response, you do deal with some 500 hundred students at a time and MISTAKE CAN BE MADE. Well obviously this was a mistake. Contrary to what you may believe though, we did talk with the other groups who used you for their spring break arrangements and it seemed they had the exact same feelings towards your il-run operation as we did.
You also claim the you did not "dissapear". Well obviously you did not literally dissapear, but I can tell you that I called several times trying to find out where our deposit was (maybe you could address that in your next rebuttal). However, the number that was fully operational before you had our money, was now "no longer available" after the trip was over and deposits where no where to be seen.

My final issue is with the tipping situation, which I will try to clear up for anyone who is reading this. At the beginning of the trip inertia gives you "free meal" coupons,(which are obviously not free at all since you paid for them in the trip package), but when you try to redeem the "free ticket" you must FIRST pay the REQUIRED tip. Now I am by no means a stickler when it comes to tipping, but when someone tells me that I MUST tip FIRST in order to get me FREE meal, it reminds me more of just paying for the meal since tipping is usually optional and done at the end of a meal. Not to mention the fact that the meals were hardly even worth with the money paid for the "tips".

Rebuttal to this Complaint

AUTHOR: Chad - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, September 28, 2005

In reference to this report, it is important to keep our facts straight.

I will address the complaints registered against us in an orderly fashion.

As it is difficult to determine the exact person registering this complaint (no last name furnished), we will attempt to address the issues lodged against us.

1.) The Complainant states that our Company was "6 hours late in picking them up." In our opinion, it most probable that the Complainant did not purchase in advance our airport transfers. This can cause significant delays upon arrival, since we then have to scramble to add transfers (a very difficult thing to do). Or, the Complainant failed to follow our "know before you go" form that each group leader receives. This details exactly what to do if a transfer is somehow missed. Since we transfer on average 500 students per week, mistakes can be made, of course.

2.) We indicate on our check in procedures "know before you go" that the check in process will take a MINIMUM of 3-4 hours to complete. The good news is, our parties are packed. The bad news is, it takes a long time to check in that many students in one day.

3.) The Complainant falsely claims that FREE breakfasts are from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Actually, they are 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. They always have been, ask our breakfast provider in Padre, Rovan's Bakery & they can confirm this.

4.) Our free meals typically consist of something like a deli sandwich, chips, and an iced tea. Our question is....this is a FREE MEAL --- we do NOT charge for our restuarant meals in South Padre. It's ludicris to complain about something that is not a cost to a travel participant.

5.) The tax/tip portion of our meals is $1.50 for breakfast, and $2.00 for a lunch or a dinner. Apparently, the Complaintant frequently does not tip their servers at restaurants, a shameful thing indeed.

6.) Distance of restaurants from a particular complex is really nothing we can control. There is 6 miles of space on the island with condos...we try to use (Rovans, North Beach) for breakfasts, Buffo's Mid Beach, and Sunsets Deli/Kohnami for South beach locations. Not everyone, every day, will be ecstatic. Further, once again, we NEVER charge our clients for these restaurant meals. Anybody reading this, eat at one of these restaurants in South Padre, you'll also challenge the quality of the food.

7) WE HAVE NEVER, REPEAT, NEVER offered 21 free meals. We for the VERY FIRST TIME offered 21 free meals in South Padre Island this September. That program already expired. Obviously, last year on spring break, we only had 21. Our Company once again, as always only offers 14 free meals.

8) Our Company has never "disappeared." I can provide server logs from eapps.com (our host Company) that will demonstrate our website has been down less than 4 total minutes all of last calender year, this is false. Damages to units occur, and we charge for them.

9) How could the Complaintant possibly have had a horrible spring break trip from this? In conclusion, they "wasted" possibly 6 hours on some missed transfer. They ate a meal they didn't enjoy. They were there a whole week. What DID go well? The parties? The clubs? The Side Trips? The weather? Meeting & mingling?

An experience is whatever your mind creates. We try to do our utmost to provide absolutely the best possible trips to South Padre Island, Texas. Sometimes, Cancun & Acapulco are better selections for people. Sometimes, South Padre is.
