Dave and Jenn DeBruyn claim to be the leaders in ultra modern sustainable living but the only thing sustainable about this company is their racist behaviors and attitudes towards those of color!!! I entered into a purchase agreement with the DeBruyns, met with his wife and had a verbal agreement to complete a purchase. Once we met face to face and they realized that I was a person of color their complete attitude and demeanor changed. They then went on to cancel our scheduled meeting for later that evening. When I tried to reschedule the meeting they gave me the run around, eventually telling me that they were no longer able to sell to me... that "suddenly" a neighbour had decided to purchase the product that was sent to me.

I then had a friend of mine call the DeBruyns later the next day and meet them in regards to this exact same purchase. My friend, by the way is Canadian. [continued below]....
..... And guess what... low and behold the product was back on the market for her!!! If this isnt good old-fashioned racism then I dont know what is! For a company who claims to be leading the way in a new modern way of living it is quite ironic that there is nothing modern about their bigottry and prejudice. Do not do business with these bigots if you have any self dignity at all. This was one of the most degrading and upsetting experiences of my life.

Just one big misunderstanding

To be completely honest with you. The only reason I know about this thread is beacuse the author told me about it this afternoon after they realized it probably wasn't their smartest idea. I have spoken to them and asked them to remove it but I will say that it was absolutely not necessary for me to go through the trouble of creating this account to respond to you publicly here. I could have ignored this completely and gone on with my life. However I have gone through the trouble of creating this account to publicly abolish you of any such claims.

Yes I did have a conversation with Jenn, and I do stand by my opinion on the matter. The reason I sent a private email to her is because it was a private matter and of course a matter of opinion... which would then turn this into a he said she said type issue which is ridiculous and will resolve nothing. Despite what I feel about how I was treated I do not wish to discuss the opinions I wrote in the email to her here because as I mentioned it was a personal matter and had nothing at all to do with your company. This was a personal transaction that did not go as planned and inhaus should not be pulled into this at all. With that said, for anyone reading this its unfortunate that our dirty laundry has had to be aired like this but it has nothing to do with Inhaus, as they seem to be a very upright professional company.

The authour of the original post is admittedly someone I know who I did complain to and expressed my opinions to and they took offense to the situation and have taken it too far by writing this report in such a slanderous manner. I do take full responsibility for complaining about how I felt personally but I dont take responsibility for the original report even though I will try my best to have it removed. Being 5 months pregnant and very hormonal I feel very stressed by this whole matter and am very sorry that it has been posted publicly. As mentioned I have asked the author to have this removed as it is not fair for inhaus to have bad publicity for no reason. Our personal matters shall remain just that.

Also as you mentioned this report is barely a tadpole in the ocean of the internet world so the likelihood of anyone seeing this is slim to none. However instead of ignoring the issue I have chosen to write this response publicly. As per this website if anyone is threatened with legal action or in any other way they do not remove the posting because the point of this site as it seems is to give consumers a voice and ability to exercise free speech. This I will discuss privately with them as if I considered your posting threatening I would have never written this message as I said before or opened this account. I would have left you to fend for yourself. But because I do not believe it is polite or right to slander a hard working business I am offering you this posting and a promise to try and remove this post as my apologies for our personal opinions becoming somewhat public! Again, just an unfortunate and embarassing situation.

I do appreciate your attention to this matter. I find it somewhat improbable that you would be even be aware of this complaint thread unless you were the one that authored it. I am also deeply concerned by the fact it mirrors the content of an threatening & slanderous email you sent to Jennifer on March 21, 2013 at 10:42am. This goes well beyond the line of a "misunderstanding", and we will pursue the issue until it is resolved to our satisfaction.

As it stands I have sufficient grounds to pursue damages if this complaint is not resolved. I would suggest that you speak with your "friends" and ensure this report is removed in its entirety within the 24h deadline that was originally given to avoid finding yourself on the receiving end of a lawsuit.

False Accusations against Inhaus

Dear Dave and Jen,

This report was certainly not written by me. I did mention the situation to several people out of frustration and it seems that perhaps someone has taken it into their own hands to write this slanderous and inaccurate report. Perhaps thinking they were doing a favor? I deeply apologize and will certainly find out who is at the heart of this so it can be removed. I am quite embarassed that someone I know would write this... Please know that I had nothing to do with this report and would not write put up such accusations on the internet.

The truth is that Dave (whom I have never met) and Jen appear to be very professional and kind business people. Yes there was an issue with a measely rug... of all things! However out of frustration Jen and I had a few words but it was certainly not to the extent of this report. All that happened was I was supposed to buy a rug from Jen (not Inhaus) and that transaction did not go through for various unfortunate reasons. I am over it, as its just a rug.

From what I can see Inhaus is a very professional and amazing company. They are doing wonderful, eco friendly things and the homes they built are amazingly beautiful. Again none of this slander is true at all and I will be sure to find out who wrote this silly report and have it removed asap!

regarding Reena Pillan - Craiglist customer for used carpet

Reena Pillan - your accusations are not only insulting, they are bordering on insane. As the President of the company, we have never met. I have no idea who or what your particular ethnicity is. It is my understanding you showed up at a home we recently sold to purchase a $200 used carpet used for staging purposes. You did not show up with cash in hand, and so the carpet was sold within 2 hours to the next person in line. In a free market economy this is a standard transaction - there were over 20 replies to the posting. You have had absolutely no other dealings with our company and I cannot fathom why you feel the need to make such a personal attack. If you would like to purchase the same carpet, I can suggest that you head to Costco and we would be happy to provide you with the model number.

Your accusations are not only false, they are slanderous and extremely serious. We have contacted our legal team & they have advised me to provide you with 24 hours notice to remove the offensive and misleading comments. If the comments are not removed we will take further action.
