A woman I've known for years came into my office because she knew I had been a single mom for the past 19 years. She went to school with my oldest son, and her now husband helped to coach my youngest son during his high school career. This woman knew that my children and I did not have any kind of insurance. I trusted her. I have known her and her parents for almost 20 years now, so when she told me I could get insurance through United American Insurance Company that was just like "Aflac" but for a fraction of the cost, I jumped at the chance.

It was almost one year ago that my policy became "in effect". To this date the company has NEVER once sent me a copy of my policy, although when the Agent sold it to me, she promised it would be "just a few weeks" and I would get a copy.

In January of 2009 I slipped on the ice at work and broke my patella in half. I submitted my insurance card at the ER--thanking God that my friend had sold me that policy 5 months earlier! When I had surgery to repair my knee cap, I submitted that information to the Company as well. I heard nothing.

In April of 2009, I saw the Agent who sold me the policy at a wedding--we even sat on the same row on the Bride's side. I told her that I had not heard anything about my claim and was curious as to what was going on. She told me to get the information to her and she would personally look into it.

After a few more months passed and not hearing anything from her, she just so happened to come into my office to submit an offer on a piece of property and I told her I still had not heard anything from the Company, at all. As she is leaving out the door, she turns around and says, "They're investigating the accident." I asked her what there was to investigate and she poked her head inside, and in a whisper informed me that the company was "investigating" whether or not my injury was self inflicted, and without another word, she turned around and walked away.

I have not heard anything else from her since, and I have not heard anything at all from the company, but just the other day, just like clockwork, the Company withdrew their monthly premium fee from my checking account.

It has been 6 months since I broke my knee and 5 months since I've had my surgery. IF (and I use that word very loosely) United American Insurance Company is investigating the validity of my claim, they have YET to contact my DR's, or my employer (since this happened at work and it is a Workman's Comp claim, and Workman's Comp has paid all of my DR bills, plus part of my salary). UAIC has not even taken the time to contact the Workman's Comp Agent who is handling my claim--(and doing a wonderful job I might add!)

I've had ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEM whatsoever with Workman's Comp, so why is UAIC not paying out on my claim?

7/24/2009 Spoke to "Samantha" at Customer Service who informed me that no paperwork had been submitted for my claim. I asked why then would their Agent inform me that my claim was being "Investigated", to which Samantha replied, "I don't know."

Samantha told me that I needed to have the Hospital fax the proper claim forms and once they were faxed to her, she would get the claim processed...

So far so good...

We'll see what my report is when I call them back next week.
