After opening my Qwest bill dated May 22, 2006, I noticed a very large, unexpected balance. So I scoured through the charges and found a mysterious charge for $39.95 to Integretel 900 Serv. The very first thing that came to mind was a 900 number charge, but we don't make calls from our home phone, much less a 900 number. Our main line is used strictly for internet service and is pretty much a dedicated line.

In complete frustration, I called Qwest billing and asked them why on Earth I was being charged for a two minute call to a 900 number. I explained that this line does NOT make outgoing calls other than to our ISP. At that point, I was given another number to call and told to explain my situation to them. 1-800-736-7500

Upon speaking with a representative of Integretel 900 Service, Michelle, I was told that they had traced this 900 call to my line. I explained that we don't make calls from our home phone. Michelle proceeded to explain to me that my computer had automatically dialed a 900 number and downloaded a small software program. My immediate response was, Not with MY consent! Of course, she tried to blame someone else in my household, but that was non productive for her, as my son can't even make phone calls and doesn't even know what a 900 number is, much less how to dial it. She continued to explain to me that as a 1 time courtesy, she could make an adjustment of 50% to the total of the bill, but I would have to pay it.

I began to raise my voice and explained to Michelle that this was a scam and that I would NOT pay one CENT for this as I never agreed to pay anything for any software program. I also explained that IF my computer DID actually dial this 900 number is was done with spyware or some other form of scam script that accessed my PC without my knowledge OR consent. I explained that I would be contacting the FCC, FTC and every other agency that I would need to and explain just what Integretel is doing.

Michelle then explained to me that she was authorized, as a one time courtesy, to offer a 100% credit for this charge. She then explained that I would need to contact my phone company and put a block on 900 numbers from my phone and that she would block the number that I supposedly called 900-444-0357.

After reading through the reports here, I see many have accessed game sites or free coupon offers. I've done none of these things. I learned my lesson on the free giveaways several years ago. You can surely get a free laptop, when you purchase $400-$700 of other mandatory offers. Not a chance I downloaded any computer program knowingly! This is a major scam and I'm filing complaints with the FTC AND the FCC! I believe this is some form of spyware, trojan or virus. The complaints need to spell that out.

Just a quick note, the BBB does NOTHING to help. They simply make reports and then tell you there is nothing more they can do and it's the same with the AG. HOWEVER, the FCC and FTC have mandatory response requirements to complaints. I had a problem with a well known scam cell phone service a couple of years ago. After NEVER using their service, returning the phone, in the allotted time, they refused to refund my money. After 6 months of two to three hour long phone calls, fighting with these freaks, I complained to the FCC. Two weeks later, I received a personal phone call from the Attorney of this company. I had my money back in 3 days. They mean business!

I believe this can be classified as an FCC complaint due to the fact your phone bill has been used and these charges (many on this forum) are for a voice mail service.

You can actually file complaints with these agencies online.

I just wonder how many others are simply paying their phone bill and not noticing this scam.
