I am SO ANGRY!!
my best girlfriend got a tattoo at island ink a while ago, and it SUCKED.
Here's why.
During the tattoo, she was in so much pain. It was on her ribs, some little letters and numbers, nothing big. She said it hurt so bad, it was like he was sticking the needle in her, not just on her skin. I'm not stupid, i know tattoos are supposed to hurt, but this was ridiculous, she said, she's a really tough girl so i know she would have been able to handle it she has plenty other tattoos. and this tattoo looked horrible! it was blown out and nasty looking, it looked like she got it in jail. (by comparison, her tattoos that she actually got in jail looked wonderful!) it was blown out as hell, just splotchy and raw and generally awful. she went back to talk to the artists and they basicaly told her it was her tough luck and sent her on her way. touch ups are usually free! she said the manager was especially rude and they didn't even apologize for the horrible job they did! she doesn't know what to do. i told her that she should get the thing covered up, but it seems to have scared her off tattoos! this is a girl with a lot of tattoos.
apparently this guy that gave her the tattoo has epilepsy or something, for real, i'm not kidding. like he has siezures, literally. so you want a tattoo from him?
so anyways, i will be the second one after her to tell you NOT to go to Island Ink in Paia to get anything.

I can understand why your friend would be upset that her tattoo did not look good after it was done, but to file a report partially becuase the tattoo hurt?!?
I have a tattoo done on my ribcage and it is actually a cover up, and it really does hurt as much as your friend said it did! I mean come on now, it all depends where on the body you get tattooed. Of course it will hurt more getting tattooed on a bonier part of your body as opposed to a fatty/fleshier part. Did she go into the shop expecting to get a tattoo on her ribs and for it to TICKLE or something?? that is outrageous!

I have many tattoos and I always require seeing previous work from new artists. I will not get a tattoo from anyone unless I have met and seen face to face some of their work. I know they won't give me anyone personal information and I don't ask for it but I do require them to call up a previous customer and see if it would be ok for me to come see their tattoo to know if I want that kind of work on me. Most people don't mind showing off their tats to someone considering their artist. She should have done more research. Not pictures. You never actually know where those came from.
