I was sold this package for well over $1000, not a small amount of money for me.
I was in the process of divorce at the time. In my first month of membership, I kept hearing, so-and-so would be a good date for you. But when they got back to me a large majority of dates were not interested because I was still technically married. There was no point in using the membership. So I had to use up 9 mos. of the one year hold time they give you, right away because it took me that long to get married.
When I complianed about it down the line because my hold time was running low, they came back with some song and dance about "oh you've had a great membership, we've sent you on more than the contracted number of dates." Upshot: nine months of wasted hold time, with ZERO done to respect that I had been sold something there was no point in even having. I was told that NOW they make the disclosure that married people have a hard time...
This is true. But I definitely did not go on 13 VIABLE dates. I went on about 4 viable dates. Otherwise, Remember, a date happens whenever you end up sitting across from a warm body. One date I thought was really attractive, but she was clearly looking for a career go-getter, which I'm not. It was a total waste of time for both of us, and we never should have been matched. Another, I was actually told about how sweet she was, but she turned out to be a control freak and a real piece of work!
I think the staff makes some effort to match you up, but these are NOT trained psychologists, or necessarily offer any match making credentials whatsoever. A good handful of my dates seemed totally random, even one pretty well into things and after I had been able to provide a lot of feedback.
And guys, there are a lot more of us than ladies--at least that's my distinct impression from conversations with them. I've had 18 dates. I talked to one woman who had been going on multiple dates daily!!! I challenge you as a fellow consumer to get any sort of meaningful information about this from the franchise!
When you're a customer and you have a complaint, some businesses will show flexibility and understanding. Others will refer to the 'contract'. I've found it's just lunch to be the kind that will just remind you of the contract terms. Is that the kind of business you really want to deal with? There are plenty of cheaper and better ways to do dating services. Anything I've tried online has been better than this.

don't know what your experience with relationships or divorce has been

AUTHOR: Mark - (U.S.A.)

-NOT that I'm asking you to share...

As far as the relationship goes,we had been no more than roommates, just two people under the same roof, for years and married way too long. This was definitely not a rebound scenario.
But thanks for your two cents.

As a man you should definately know that you are not suppose to get involved on the rebound. Heck, you couldn't even wait until you were legally divorced.

After thought: what are you really looking for?

AUTHOR: Mark - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, May 05, 2008

This is not an update, but just an addition.
IJL could argue that they've satisfied their obligations, indeed even hypersatisfied the terms of the contract. But when you're considering a dating service and might be willing to put out a lot of money, are you looking for a business that will "satisfy its obligation" (this is the attitude I was met with) or are you looking for a business relationship you feel good about because people really value you as a customer and have deep competencies around the service that they hold themselves out as providers of?
I've had more dates than I was promised, but I still feel burned. If all you truely want is to pay money to get a "contract" with set of "obligations" that will get "satisfied" then IJL might be for you. If you are looking for more out of a dating service, don't count on getting it here. And if you really want to feel like you're being taken care of (and this is something that no business ever promises per se but ALL good businesses and businesses that care routinely deliver) then you can seriously forget it with IJL. I've had much better customer service at the DMV.
