Only one month after I began using my $1,700 V2 Premeir laptop ,which I ordered from Shop at Home, these huge black spots developed all over the screen. Now its difficult to point the mouse and see websites as a huge portion of the monitor is hidden under the dark spots.!

Viscom is flatly refusing to help in any way saying that the problem is merely cosmetic. I only asked for a new monitor as I dont wish to loose data, but they came up with that lame excuse. I requested Shop NBC call on my behalf, requesting a new screen and monitor but Viscom responded that I would need to pay for repairs myself.Dont forget the manufacturers warranty was still in effect at this time. It simply states ,in writing, one year warranty parts and labor. Jim Peterson also guaranteed the same warranty numerous times on the T.V. broadcast advertisemnt for the laptop. No where was the word "limited " warranty even mentioned, I feel that S.A.H. is responsable to consumers because of Truth in Advertising laws. Now that all of my warranties have expired I am requesting a charge back or Recharge as S.A.H. refers to it, on my credit card. I dont know what the outcome will be.

I havent yet put any moneys towards the laptop as it was purchased on a one year defferred promotion(its due today). If anyone can advise me about my rights on this charge back issue it would be nice. I have been involved in three or four class action law suits ,all of which amounted to less than a five dollar judgement awarded to me. People usually assume that they will be totally reimbursed for their losses in class action law suits, when in reality the majority of funds in such cases are awarded to the attorney ""groups" for their personal fees and services. Nevertheless I feel these attorneys act as "watch dogs" for the little guy,in some capacity. Im requesting that any attorneys assigned to Viscom and or .S.A.H. will require them to pay full restitution to all customers named before they collect their attorneys fees. As of now I have a junky broken laptop, and I owe almost two thousand dollars on it. Im afraid they will ruin my excellent credit if I am denied the charge back. I dont want to pay for garbage , however if they woud have honored their warranty ,I would have paid. Attorneys can contact me personally if possble.

You can get some info about Virus Ray and how to remove it at:

(((link redacted)))

Here's some info about this crap from 2-spyware:

"Virusray is a clone of infamous rogue/corrupt antispyware tool antivirgear. Virusray acts same way as antivirgear. after the instalation This parasite displays falsified and exaggerated scan reports and uses scare tactics to mislead users into purchasing its full version. You may be infected with virusray by visiting questionable website, security hole in the system or by pressing ok on some message which says that it will install security software virusray.
after the infection user gets VirusRay's false sytem alert message:
* System Alert: Trojan-Spy.Win32@mx
Type: Spyware/Trojan
Vulnerable: Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2003/Windows XP
Description: Spyware program that sends confidential information to a remote attacker.
Protection: Click this baloon to download official security software."

I'm a self-employed computer consultant. I don't know of anyone who will do what you're asking for free. I do what you're asking for my clients do NOT want to lose their data. Many times I have to kill running processes and manually edit the registry files to get rid of the problem software (usually more than one) and maintain the data as well as re-install certain system files, drivers and so forth. This can become costly to the customer depending on how much time it takes to return the computer to full functionality. Also, I know of no antivirus program that catches and safely removes everything, everytime. There is just too much stuff out there, with more being developed every day, for any one solution to do the complete job 100% of the time.

The cheapest thing for you to do is to use the disks that came with the computer and reinstall all of the software that came with it to return it to the condition that it was in out of the box. Many of these "recovery" disks from the OEM will format your hard drive as part of the recovery process and you will lose your data. The good news is this is a cheap way for you to get rid of the stuff and your system will be "clean."

You might try hunting around your area for a computer tech who will do the removal/software repairs manually as I do. But, shop around! If you find someone, ask for some verifiable references - former customers you can CALL to see how satisfied they are with the results. Almost anyone can re-install software, but editing the registry files is another matter and if done incorrectly will make the computer useless untill properly reconfigured. No two techs have the same skill/level of competence, so do your homework before you shell out any cash.

One last comment for you: Cleaning / restoring your computer isn't going to help you in the long run because (IMHO) you need to develop a better understanding of the threats to your system and become more computer security minded. There are several websites that offer a wealth of knowledge about how to avoid these types of things. Also, I recommend that you purchase a good anti-virus and firewall program and keep them up to date. I also recommend to my clients that they use a router (with a programmable firewall) at home, even if they only have one desktop computer - especially if they have DSL or CABLE internet service. The router is also a hardware firewall to help protect the system.

You can do a search for a few FREE programs out there that are reliable: spybot search and destroy and zone alarm are very popular. Also, McAfee and Symmantic offer trial periods of their security products. There are probably some more out there.

Good Luck.

I read that they are in( Viscom)bankruptcy,on this forum,I guess thats why their collection agency suddenly stopped calling me,I guess maybe they stopped paying their collection agency to harass us for disputing them for failing to honor their advertised promises and warranties.Anyways apparently they didnt pay all the money which they must have owed some collection agency ,Im just assuming but possibly that same collection agency is now calling and harrassing Viscom, just a funny possibility.Anyways they ruined my credit cause I told them to send me a new computer and then I would pay(it broke under the 1 year warranty,)does any one know if there are laws and rules regarding disputes with corporations that are going out of business and are in chapter 7 bankruptcy?I mean is there a loophole or something that I can force experian and the other credit reporting agencies to remove the bad report from them,I told their collectors that we were in a long term dispute ,which hasent been settled for over a year and now I read that they are going out of businessDoes their Bankruptcy and going out of business help my case with experian and the other credit reporting agencys? If you know the answer please help. One more thing can anyone help me to get rid of a terrible computer virus ,called virus ray, along with the popups and stupid security tool bar7.1?If you give me another free scan, then ask me to pay,I will only think your another scammer making big bucks in the big contrived business of computer viruses.I would be willing to pay anyone after they remove all the popups the new tolobar the hyjacking website,Virus ray and everything else associated with it,including all the adware spyware infections,if anyone can successfully remove all this for free on some trial peroiod then after the trial period ,I would be thrilled to pay for your continued protective services, but my research shows that most virus removal companies cant remove all these viruses,so if someone could proove to me that they can,or give me a money back guarantee, then I would be willing to pay .Margaret Thank you ,again for this excellent INFORMATIVE FORUM R.OR.
