I'm not sure what I need to do at this point. My husband is the person actually working with JKH. (My apologies for the run-on sentence you are about to read.) Our tax problem has been going on for well over three years, this is the second IRS defense team he's hired, we're out thousands just trying to defend ourselves, I've had to go on SSDI which decreased our income by 65% and three days ago we got a letter from the IRS and a call from our bank, both notifying us that our accounts had been frozen and all monies would go to the IRS in twenty-one days. My husband, who is usually pretty aggressive seems to be taking this all in stride - he's accepting twenty-four hour turn around on return phone calls and refaxing 30 page documents that he already faxed to JKH TWICE! I can(sort of) understand the IRS needing refaxes but JKH shouldn't need them unless the data has changed. In my opinion, if JKH were doing their job this situation would not have escalated to this point. We're down to 18 days and living off credit cards while we watch checks bounce - the money was available when we wrote the checks but the account was frozen the day after without our knowledge. I'm not sure how we got into the whole mess in the first place but I'm certain it was errors on our part. The IRS notified us of a problem two months prior to the statute of limitations running out. We are probably one of the few families who actually do qualify for an OIC because of the decrease in our income - there is no way we're ever going to be able to pony up this kind of money. No equity, all of our savings has gone to medical bills, I'm still not well and no cure in sight. Anybody have any advice for actions we should take immediately to at least get the IRS out of our checking account? We could lose everything - which isn't much anymore but it's all we have. Thanks for listening. Not signing my name b/c I'd hate for my DH to see this and feel like I'm doubting him. I just think he's in over is head - we're in over our heads...

No, we've dealt with the same person all the time and she is licensed. I understand from my DH that the IRS is going to drop the lien on Monday. We'll see.

We actually do qualify for OIC according to the IRS documentation. Our tax bill occurred when we were making over 70% more money than we make now. We lost a fortune when I became disabled. Add to that the nature of my illness - rare, chronic and incurable, no hope of increase in status AND the monies paid out for medical expenses not covered by insurance and there's no hope that we could ever pay the money the IRS says we owe.

We can probably manage the actual debt if we pay for 15 years or so but the penalties and interest will go to our graves with us and we're not very old. We may have just enough left in our 401K to make the IRS happy if we can just get the JKH people to help us. We tried doing it ourselves and failed miserably, that's why my husband hired JKH.

Unfortunately, he doesn't have much time to research these things and doesn't want to "worry" me with is so now we stand the real potential of being ripped off big time. If the IRS doesn't let go by Tuesday I'm going to have to insist that we do the IRS shuffle again. However, if there's a better way, I'd sure love to know what it is. Thank you all for your help, M

Trusting J.K. Harris was your first mistake!

"M",

You need to immediately go to the nearest IRS office and sit down with a counselor.
This is how it should have been handled long before ever going to slime like J.K. Harris.

It is a very small percentage of tax cases that qualify for OIC. You can get all of this right from the IRS.

You will need to sue J.K. Harris for not performing as agreed. And, if there is an actual attorney in that office, you need to file an immediate Bar Association complaint.

Let me guess, the first people you dealt with were the Ronnie Lynn Deutch gang, right? For the money you have paid these crooks combined with your other losses, you could have settled with the IRS yourself.

Advice for anyone else out there considering using these services, DON'T! You WILL get screwed. Just look at all of the complaints here on Rip Off Report on these people!
