Yesterday i went to the Jackson Hewitt tax preparation office in the Super Walmart in Kannapolis nc. The lady that did my taxes calculated i would be getting back $349.00 from federal..after all the fees, i would get back a little over 150.00. I mentioned to her about the Stimulus rebate check the irs gave to people this past year and heard that if you didnt get one, you may qualify for one on your taxes..she avoided the question by telling me there are alot of STRICT qualifications to getting one if you didnt last year but the system would let her know if i was due one..after running all the figures, she still came up with $349.00. luckily my roomate was with me and told me to just do them for free on line at the website which lets you e-file for free (freefile).. after coming home, going to the website to file my taxes, sure enough, it asked one question."did you receive a stiumulus check last year" , i entered know. it told me i was eligible for the rebate thus taking my federal refund to $649.00..i filed them online. today, i called the rep at jackson Hewitt to inform her i WAS in fact eligible for the rebate and it didnt ask me about alot of qualifications to getting it. at that point ( to which i cannot understand her logic at ALL),she told me i should have entered in the field where it asked if i got a stimulus rebate check, i should have entered in yes, $300.00 even though i didnt get one, her logic was this: "if you tell the IRS you DID get one, they will see you DID "NOT" GET ONE and they will authorise you the rebate, but if you say you "did not" GET ONE, that will hold your refund up because the IRS will look into that..THAT MAKES NO SINCE WHAT SO EVER! she is blatantly suggesting i lie about getting a rebate check??? past couple of years i havent been happy with jackson hewitt, it always seems there nothing but amateur high school/college students working there who do not have to first clue about legitimate tax calculating.. i wished i had read all the reports on prior to filing. save yourself some money and possible legalities, do them for free on line. direct deposit can be in your bank account 8-10 days.

What Calmdownguys says is correct

AUTHOR: Stephen - (U.S.A.)

We were instructed to cancel out the recovery rebate credit in order to speed up the processing of returns and so that the banks wouldn't deny some loans on people. We knew full well that the IRS was going to check the RRC and that it would be remedied. This was handed down to us by our corporate office and everything has gone well with it. The lady did not explain this well enough to you.

It has been a source of frustration for many of our customers, though. Many of them are falsely informed (even by IRS letters!) that a mistake was made on their tax return. For instance, when the RRC is calculated by the IRS, they send out letters saying an error was made and they're going to get some extra money. This is misleading. In fact, we anticipated everything that was going to happen.

Response to why they told you to "lie" to the IRS about the Stimulus Check

AUTHOR: Calmdownguys... - (U.S.A.)

There has been an outrageous number of fradulent returns being submitted this year to the IRS, alot of them due to the Recovery Rebate Credit (RRC). Taxpayers have been claiming they did not recieve any or all of the Stimulus check, when in fact they have.

This has cause the IRS office to carefully go over each return that has a RRC on it. This means every person in the United States that submits a return with a RRC on it, needs to be overlooked by an IRS agent. This is taking alot of time with the IRS, and slowing down the time it takes to get the refund.

What the lady at Jackson Hewitt was trying to explain to you, but must have done it poorly, was that you can file your taxes without the RRC on it. The IRS will accept your return and send you your check for whatever your Refund is supposed to be. Once the IRS goes back and checks to make sure you recieved the Stimulus check, and see's that you DID NOT recieve the check, they print you a check and send it off.

She was only trying to help you speed up the process of getting your refund back. She was correct in what she was saying, I wouldn't call it a "lie" but rather letting them do the work for you. (Let the IRS investigate whether you should get a RRC or not, and sending it out when they know).

It ensures that your 2008 Tax Refund will get to you in a timely manner.

I hope this clarifies any questions you may have had.
