Me and my wife went to Ms. Seary's Jackson Hewitt Office to have our 2005 taxes prepared. When we arrived, we were told that someone would be with us shortly. There were a total of what we thought were 3 tax prepares that appeared to be doing nothing at all. They were actually surfing the net as I later found out. When this women came out of the back of the store with a child in her arms, she welcomed us to her store and again were told that someone would take care of us as soon as possible and then she scamperd off to the back of the store and into her I beleive her office.

Well it took nearly 15 moe minutes for someone to speak with us. At that time this person had no clue to any questions we asked nor did they explain that they would research the answers we wanted and get back to us. Well after sitting with them we explained that we wanted our refund if any to be submitted as a IRS Direct Deposit. So at this time we were given a price to prepare our taxes and were told to return the following day to sign them. When we returned the next day our taxes were completed as promised but..

Our tax return was submitted using Jackson Hewitt's ACR program. The total amount for this service increased our price by an additional $50.00.

At this point I asked that I speak with Lori and I was told she was not in the office. I knew that she was because I could hear the child she was carrying the day before crying and I heard Lori ask her to please be quite. Well she must have heard me talking because out from her office she came. She asked what the problem was and I explained that I did not ask for this additional service to be performed on my return and wanted a discount of $50.00 taken off of my bill, I was told that it could not be deducted because the transmission was already wired to the home office. At this point her baby became irriate and she excused herself from the main office area, NEVER TO RETURN.

I asked that I speak with her boss and that I would not leave until I got another contact to speak to. Well I never received a contact nor did I ever get the chance to speak with her.

After reading that others had the same experience, I had to tell mine. I hope that if anyone else reads this that they do not go to the place for having their taxes done!! This is poor customer service and she propably benefitted from the additional services on top of the crazy amount of money to have ones taxes done.

And also the place was a mess, it smelled like dirty diapers and no one should have to work under thse conditions even people that don't know how to prepare taxes for others!!

I had this investigated and it did turn out to be an employee I had fired, named Irene Malfitano.  This was actually traced to her last job of employment.  Which she was later fired from.

You can see my employee's rebuttal as well.  As well as e-mails that were forwarded to me.  All is true and then some.

It is very sad and disappointing that people can write whatever they want about someone.

I have worked for a Jackson Hewitt franchise for 3 years in Ohio.Mistakes do happen and people mess up sometimes.The key is to discount or refund or whatever you have to do to KEEP customers. I am not sure who is telling the truth here but it is interesting how many times you said none of this happened in your rebuttal.It is also interesting that you say she worked for you LAST year but came in and did her own taxes for free.I'm not sure how you guys do it but we dont allow FORMER employees to come in and do their own taxes. I would have to lean toward the customer on this one.In our store we would have gladly discounted that price for OUR mistake,apoligized profusely and probably kept a customer for many years to come.

We would like to respond to the Sam of Toms River's false statements about our office, staff, James Seary and Lori Seary. James Seary has nothing to do with Jackson Hewitt. We have never seen him working at any of our locations nor has he ever been scheduled to work at any of our locations. Our office never has 3 tax preparers on at one time. We go from office to office depending on where we are needed. None of us are ever surfing the net. First of all we are all professionals here and don't appreciate even being accused of such a thing. Even if we wanted to use the internet it is impossible. None of the staff has access to the internet, except for the owner. There was never any woman that came out of a back office to greet any customer with a child in her arms. There is only one child that could be in the office and she is hardly ever there. She is in school or at home. When she is in the office she is a very well behaved child. The woman that has an office in the back never greets customers. That is what our 2 receptionists do and preparers when the receptionists are busy. The woman who has an office in the back has never scampered into her office or anywhere else. We never have people waiting 15 minutes. If someone is a walk-in and doesn't have an appointment we ask them if they want to wait or we take their information if our preparers are busy.
Our office is never a mess. In fact we get nothing buy compliments on our office. We also get surprise visits from our corp office. My boss has been told that our office looks great by her RD. The office has never smelled like dirty diapers. There are no children in the office that are not potty trained. The woman who has the office in the back is the only person who would bring her child in and she has been potty trained long before tax season even started.

We would also like to point out that this individual was never overcharged. Nor did she ever ask to speak to Lori Seary. We document everything her. This has been fully investigated. As you can see this letter is completely false. All of us here know how to prepare taxes, and some of us are CPA's. We all had to take a class and pass a test given by Jackson Hewitt in order to prepare returns. None of us surf the net (we don't have access to the internet), the office is never a mess, and this particular person was never overcharged. In fact since she worked here she prepared her own return for free as did all of us.

It is our belief that this e-mail is from a disgruntled employee that was fired from last year. In fact prior to this, we started calling all of our customers this year and we have had approx. a 97% - 99% very favorable response to our service and knowledge. We probably had only 3 issues occur out of over 500 returns as of today. We have been able to help everyone except one. We know we can't please everyone. As our customers know we won 1st place for the best customer service (RAF) in our region as is shown at the front of our store. Lori Seary as does all of us take customer service very seriously. We want to win the same award next year. We all would like to come back and work for Lori Seary next year and don't appreciate this individual being dishonest about our staff, our office, and/or our boss. We worked our asses off this year. It's one thing to have an opinion it's a whole different thing to be dishonest about all of us and our service at JH.
