I went to "Strategic Equity" summit in Las Vegas, NV. I saw James Smith and was very impressed with him. I was interested in getting involved. James said something like "Don't worry about trying to explain this to your spouse, there is a DVD you can get in the back that has this presentation on it." I thought "Great, I can show this to my spouse at no risk and we can decide whether we want to get involved or not."

I go to the back and speak with James's son at the booth. At this particular event, since there were 4,000 people there, there were hundreds of people clammering around the booth filling out order forms (do the math, 100s of people X $5,995, that's a lot of money and that's just one event! Why even do real estate when the seminars pay so well?)

I ask for the DVD to show my spouse and James's son says "Oh the DVD is in the package. To get the DVD you have to get the package."

I get very down to earth at this point and say "So to get the DVD to show my spouse to see if we want to do it I have to give you my money?"

He says "Don't worry about it you have 5 business days to return it for a full refund if you don't want to do it."

That was the first red flag. STRIKE 1. With all the people signing up and all the money they are making, why can they not provide a DVD to show your spouse without having to sign up. I mean, what does a DVD cost? less than a buck! Many of the other speakers at the events gave FREE DVDs and materials to take home and review before making a decision.

I look at the order form and it mentions a 5 day return policy. It also says and I quote

"See the Notice of Cancellation form on the back of this order form for an explanation of this right. To obtain a duplicate copy of the Notice of Cancellation of if you have any questions, please call 866-390-7916."

Well there is no Notice of Cancellation form on the back of the order form. STRIKE 2. When I called the toll free number 4 times and all it did was give an "off the hook/busy" tone. STRIKE 3. I then asked about this.

I said to the son "It says on this order form that there is a notice of cancellation on the back and there is not one. I called the phone # 4 times and it is not working."

The son appears very surprised and says something to the effect that he is surprised that the phone number is not working, they must be having a lot of volume of calls right now. But not to worry and I could cancel in 5 business days. He came off in a way that it appeared that they would be very cool with the cancellation.

Now remember, I went through all this shenanagins just to get the DVD of the presentation to show my spouse.
Then I go on to the internet and am reading about how they try to sell you on a $22,000 program when you go to the $6,000 one. I'm sorry, but for $6,000 and 3 days of 8 hours a day you should be able to give me all the CONTENT I need to know. When I learned that they try to sell you again, they lost all credibility with me. STRIKE 4.

I also have been reading about how difficult it is to get your money back. I am concerned because I don't have the cancellation policy. The phone number still doesn't work and I tried it on a Sunday. How many calls could they be getting on a Sunday. I'm sorry I just think the phone # is BS. I think they make it almost impossible to get your money back. I am concerned about this.

The only thing that makes me feel decent right now is I did the transaction on Friday and it's Sunday. I have 5 business days still to try to get my money back. The thing that I am uncomfortable with is that this company never provided me with the Cancellation Policy. Therefore, I am unsure on how to exactly cancel with them. Something tells me they have a very specific way of cancelling and if you don't do it exactly that way, you don't get your money.

Can anyone that has gotten their money back tell me what steps they took or what course of action will yield me a result? Please include addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, names of people for me to contact. I would really, really appreciate it.

Thank you.

Received my Money Back!

AUTHOR: Sasha - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, June 12, 2007

Hi again, I received my money back.

I have been told by the James Smith Company that the printer messed up on the order forms by not putting the Notice of Cancellation on the back of the forms and having a typo on the cancellation phone number. So apparently it was an honest mistake.

The James Smith Company did right by me as far as the cancellation policy and refunding my money. I had quite a scare with my experience and with what I read on this website, but in the end they did right by me.

STRATEGIC EQUITY IS A GREAT COMPANY!

AUTHOR: Sasha - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, June 12, 2007

I need to clarify that Strategic Equity is a fantastic company. Any loan officer who wants to improve their game needs to go to one of their events. There were many fantastic speakers who were worth the price of admission alone. I am convinced Steven Marshall has the utmost integrity. In fact like Scott says he 100% guarantees all his speakers with a money back guarantee. He said that at his seminar, but I think I might have been on a bathroom break. Multiple people have told me that he said that though, so he did say that.

A bit pre-emptive

AUTHOR: Sasha - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, June 11, 2007

I might have been a bit pre-emptive in my comments, but my initial experience along with comments I have read on the internet freaked me out. I have been promised by multiple reps at James Smith company that I will get my $$ back. I promise to give an update on whether I get my money back or not. I will say that it cost me $59 to Fed-Ex priority overnight the package back to them. Perhaps if I was a little more relaxed about the whole thing and shipped it ground I could have spent $20 or $30 instead, but I didn't want to cut it close at all. Remember, I just wanted the DVD presentation to show my fiancee. Many of the other speakers handed out complimentary CDs, DVDs, and information to take home to make a decision.

I will give an update on what happens.

Thanks for hoping things work out for me

AUTHOR: Sasha - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, June 10, 2007

Yes you have a point. Why all the red flags and order anyway? The biggest reason is the 5 day guarantee. In fact, without the 5 day guarantee there was a 0 percent chance I would have ordered it. I Just wanted to show my fiancee the DVD presentation so we could make a decision.

When I sit in my home office and rehash the events it does seem silly to sign up for something when those red flags were there. Hindsight is 20/20. Keep in mind that you were not there, that you are reading my experience from my perspective as I rehash it on this site.

Also please try to understand the energy at these events and the way hundreds of people are clammering to get their order forms in. Many many excited people are rushing the booths, cutting in front of each other like a feeding frenzy. James is an unusually charismatic speaker and I have seen a lot of speakers in my time. James ranks in the top 2 easily. Nobody else comes close. It is easy to get caught up and not think as level headed as one does when one is not in that environment. Take this site for example. People are on this site to read other victim's experience of being scammed. So people will have much more of a state of skepticism, being rational, etc. Remember that mental state has a lot to do with decision making and outlook.

We have all been scared, excited, sad, happy, positive, negative, etc. Feeling controls mental state and mental state controls the types of decisions we make. So please keep this in mind. Believe me it is easy to look at someone else's mistakes and think you would never do them. But I bet if you honestly lay on the table some of your worst mistakes and bad decisions you have made in your life, relationships, financial, etc. that it would not be difficult for me or someone else to really pick them apart. We all can relate to feeling like we can easily solve other people's problems and see the error in their ways. It's human nature.

We're all human. I made a mistake. Thousands of people have ordered James Smith product so I am not the only one that made this very mistake.

I am going to cancel tomorrow though and should have a full 5 business days to get this done. So really it shoudn't be too much of a mistake. Hopefully the company won't put me through the hell it has put other people who have tried to get their money back.
