JBC & Associates ripoff fraudulent collection practices threatening abuse fraud Bloomfield New Jersey

I was sent a letter from JBC claiming a bounced check to Ames Dept. store from 1997. I contacted them and was called numerous names, threatened with prosecution, and told if the money was not sent Western Union by 5 p.m. that day I would be arrested.

I sent a certified letter requesting proof of the debt. None was ever sent. I contacted my bank, no record of any check. JBC continued to call and harass me, at one point telling my 16 yr old son that "your mother is going to jail, I hope she has a lawyer". Numerous messages left on my machine telling me to call immediately.

I sent a second certified letter, requesting that they stop calling me and contact me only by mail. I sent a third certified letter telling them the SOL in my state had expired (NY) and that I was aware of my rights under the Fair Debt Collection Act.

I also filed a complaint with the FTC. I am still getting harrassing phone calls. The last occured on 9/11/03 at 8:05 p.m. from a Mack Styles. He left a message that I was to return the call within the hour.

They refused to provide proof, ignore all my requests and break the law by threatening legal action and purporting to be a law firm when they are a collection agency. They use abusive language and leave messages with threats to minor children.
