First off, went to JD Byrider to find a dependable car w/in our budget. First we test drove a Pontiac Grand Am. While test driving the vehicle; the salesperson demonstrated how to turn on the A/C. (My wife has asthma and won't drive a car w/o air.)

The night was cool and cool air came from the vents. We purchased the vehicle and the next day the A/C wouldn't work in the heat. We returned to the dealership and were told that Byrider would fix the air but we would have to pay half.

Finally, they relented based on the fact that the salesperson represented the car as having functional a/c. Their final solution was to allow us to pick another car in our budget. They gave us 3 (wow) to choose from and we still had to add money to our down payment to get the same general bi-weekly pmt amt.

So here we are w/96 Lumina that has 139,000 miles on it. We had to replace the battery and alternator almost immediately. Several other minor problems but none so expensive as to break me. After paying our payments for almost 2 years, my wife lost her job and we managed to miss only 1 payment.

We always paid more than the monthly payment and according to CNAC we were always 2 weeks ahead. So, my wife gets a new job and resumes payments. However, her paychecks are a week off and CNAC refuses to reset the weeks payments are due (they also don't defer interest). Consequently, each week that I make a payment is followed by collection calls the very next week.

According to CNAC interest accrues at 6 bucks a day. My last couple of payments I have added extra to and yet I still get asked to make a 190 dollar payment to catch up the interest (instead of my 141 dollar payment).

I have repeatedly explained that my car payment is #1 after my house payment and I will always pay at least the regular pmt. plus any extra I can afford. However, my wife now makes 1/2 what she did before and I just can't squeeze an extra 50 bucks when I am trying to keep utilitys on etc.

Currently my bal. is about 4600 dollars and the blue book is about 2000 even b-4 taking into account high mileage. Yesterday, the engine light started flashing, engine shaking, and no speed over 20 mph. Do you think I will have my car towed 40 miles to Byrider service only to be ripped further by their incompetant and dishonest staff? HELL NO!

My summary: Walk, bicycle, thumb a ride or even trade sex for transportation before you look twice at JD Byrider or CNAC. You'll be glad you did. :) My rant is finished...I think I'll go outside and try to figure out what is wrong w/the d**n car this time.

how much does bad credit cost? ..Is this a method of consumer punishment?

AUTHOR: Jaded - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, December 19, 2003

Apparently a whole lot! I guess that should be the deterrent to us "BAD" credit having people huh? But tell me this, because someone is over a barrel does that make it "okay" to charge them excessively for a faulty product? What are you really suggesting? Is this a method of consumer punishment? should your bank be able to do the same. If you bounce a check or have a negative balance, should they charge you extra next month so it won't happen again? People always seem to be able to go along with policies or rules that they feel will never apply to them, so what do you care right? you probably just say to yourself how dare they complain? You oughta be thankful someone is willing to finance you period! never mind the messy ugly details. But what if it were you? or a loved one, then what? Why is it do people who work for these companies seem to take complaints about them so personally? IM sure there is someone in East Cup Cake that had a wonderful experience with this dealership. IM sure you could dig through all the dissatisfied customers and find some happy ones. That is not the point. It seems to me that people such as your self are rarely if ever able to be objective. Okay so someone has "BAD" credit. In this country what does that really mean anymore? Who doesn't? Let me ask you this if you are so responsible and never make any mistakes, why on earth would someone choose to work for what I consider loan sharks/preditors. You seem like you wanna "shoot from the hip" and be real. So let's be real. Do you HONESTLY believe that JD BYRIDER is out to (just) give poor folks with bad credit a "second chance" ? cummon.. We all understand these people are here to make a profit, that's fine. The sleaziness comes in when you intentionally cater to people who are desperate for financing and you use their misfortune or irresponsibility (however you judgmental perfect credit score having people choose to see it) to see it to make a profit off of. Since we are being honest how many stories about JD Byrider crappie cars that literally barely make it off the lot before they brake down must you hear before you will acknowledge the obvious? I personally with my bad credit having self financed a a car with them and broke down not even a bloke from the dealership! They refused to take that hunk of junk back and I don't blame em. We all realize and understand that when you buy any car you are subject to problems and that especially applies to used cars, However, JD, takes the cake. Not only do they sell you a lemon but they charge you as many as 4-5 times what it is worth and pretend that somehow they are helping you? They are helping themselves is what they are doing. They will sell a car that is barely drivable and worth $1,500 blue book and finance you for $4,000 now that's a profit! Especially when you consider this person who bought it is paying for tows, repairs and not even able to use never mind rely on the car they needed so desperately.

So how exactly are you helping someone with bad credit I ask? you financed them for a car that is new, you gave them a lemon. They have no car but they are paying for it anyway. If they do what I did they are in an even worse situation than when they walked in the door. I had enough. I had my tire almost come off on the highway because of rotten bolts. I had my brakes go on the highway. I had the transmission go, on a car worth $500.00 at best. Should I have paid for a rebuilt or new Transmission? where would I have gotten the money for that? No car to go to work to even pay for it with. I chose to cut my loses and tell them to kiss my ---!

I seriously doubt that even the people on their soap boxes at JD Byrider really believe what they spew and if so they are delusional at best. I doubt also that most of them are "good" credit worthy. Last time I checked the whole country for the most part was in the hole so who is anyone to judge?

When you work with the public and you are privy to peoples business it's easy to look down your nose at them and decide how or what they must have done wrong. I would suggest that most of us are but a paycheck from being behind on something and if you are not consider yourself blessed or just savvy.

#1 REBUTTAL Owner of company

you left out more about your complaint than you may realize

AUTHOR: Lori - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, November 19, 2003

I just finished reading your complaints about J.D Byrider. You sound to me to be a resonably inteligent person, however, you left out more about your complaint than you may realize.

First of all you forgot to mention that J. D Byrider provides a service and program ONLY to those who have BAD credit.

You forgot to mention how you got to be such a credit bandit. You forgot to mention that this finance company loaned YOU money when no one else would !!You did mention that J.D.Byrider allowed you to choose from 3 other cars when you complained about no A.C !!

How many other dealerships would do that ? ! ? And, you forgot to mention that when you bought the car, YOU signed a warranty statement that specifically stated that the A.C. was not covered by the warranty. Sounds like you left a lot out of your " complaint "...you sure your not just angry at .........YOU ??????

You have been given an opportunity to repair your credit and once again YOU are failing. Directing your complaints towards yourself might be a better way to expell the unhappiness you are living.
