In January 2010 I took out a loan and signed a contract with JD Byrider. I was desperate for a car, and since my credit was not very good, I decided to go to JD Byrider. Huge mistake!I got a 2006 Pontiac G6 that had around 76,000 miles on it. I had to pay $1500 as the downpayment. My car payments are $179.21 EVERY TWO WEEKS! That is about $360 a month.

Besides the fact I am paying a ridiculous amount for this car, it is also a piece of crap. Within a month, the car started making all sorts of noises. I took it in and the intermediate shaft needed replaced (which was under warranty).

A few months later, the brakes started shaking and vibrating horribly. Well, brakes are NOT under warranty, so I had to take it to an independent mechanic. I had to have ALL of the brakes replaced. The mechanic I took it to also found that I needed the sway bar links replaced.

Then, only a month after having all of that work done, the car started shaking above 60mph, had a loud thumping/popping noise in the front end, and was rattling so loud on the driver's side. I called JD Byrider to make an appointment. I drop it off and here is what's wrong now: 2 tie rods need replaced, the entire steering column needs replaced, the tires need balanced and rotated, the alignment needed balanced, AND I need 2 new front struts. The struts and the tires/alignment are NOT under warranty. So once again, I have to have something fixed out of pocket -- and of course the struts are the most expensive issue.

Something goes wrong with this car every few months and it never seems to be properly fixed!

What can I do?! I really need help. I don't know who to talk to about this. Can JD Byrider get me into another car? This one is CLEARLY extremely unsafe. Is my car considered a "Lemon"? I do not know who to contact or where to get help -- but I would love any advice on where to start.

This car worries me! I am a nanny and am responsible for driving around a 3y year old girl all day. This car seems so unsafe to drive. There have been so many issues! I am afraid this car won't last until my loan is over. It has only been one year of my 3 year loan. By the time my loan is paid off, I will have paid over $19,000 for a car that is not worth 1/4th of that!

I Agree With You

AUTHOR: ForMe4You - (USA)

POSTED: Monday, November 28, 2016

I agree with you. People have no idea what others go through. I came on here to read the comments, after looking the company up. Anyway, there could be many reasons a person is late, even by one day. Others have no idea. Things can come up at the last moment, that were not predicted. For instance, a person's boss might not pay them on time. Yes, that has happened to people, when they work for a privately owned company. That doesn't mean, well then you shouldn't work there. Everyone needs a job and places need employees. Never does anyone expect bad things to happen. Plus, there are so many "perfect" people out there, that have never had to experience anything bad in their lives. They really have no business dishing out advice on something they have no clue about. I understand though, I too have been through very bad situations such as domestic violence and more. No one understands at all, except others who wore those shoes too. I agree, 24 hours late and they are repossessing, is ridiculous. Who in the world does that, besides them. Otherwise, most places just do it in around a week to a month. That's crazy that they are doing it the very next day after the payment is due.

JD BYrider False Operations

AUTHOR: Florence - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, November 26, 2012

At this point, I could not be happier... I don't need a company like JD Byrider and I will continue to spread the word to others about their false operations.  I made a promise to myself as well as JD Byrider when all this happened; I will not allow another person to (if I can help it) from being suckered into this deal.  I was not given an opportunity to pay off my car and never recieved a letter and am now in the process of making sure they are no where near my credit report.  The track record with this company is awful.  I just wished I had done my homework sooner.  Oh well, you live and you learn and I will never buy from a company like this again.

Contract states no grace period whatsoever

AUTHOR: The Truth HurtsTexas - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, November 26, 2012

Your contract states very clearly that no deliquency and no grace periods are allowed.  It is stated at a minimum of four times in closing alone.  I understand that it seems unfair but you should have known what you were getting into, if you didn't then you were not paying attention after you heard the word approved.  Don't be upset about something you should have seen coming if you were really "invested" in the JD Byrider program.

Did you do a CARFAX report on this vehicle before you bought it? You should always research any used car on this website before you buy it.It sounds like this vehicle was involved in an accident before-CARFAX should tell you that before.Just run the VIN number (serial number) of the vehicle you intend to buy,and all of that information should be there. However,it's probably too late for this deal, because I  don't believe the "Lemon Law" applies to used car purchases.

You keep missing the point!!

AUTHOR: Florence - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, March 28, 2012

For some reason you keep missing the point and this is the last time I'll give you the decency of repeating. First of all.. I admitted I was late.. Secondly, My subprime life is something that MANY Americans are unfortunately facing. If you happen to be in a better position than consider yourself LUCKY!!! My subprime life is a product of this economy. I had a 720 credit score just 5 years ago... Remember when you offend one subprimer you are offending them all! So I'll spell it out for you again "Mr. Genious from a state that should be it's own country"!! IF THATS HOW THEY PRCTICE BUSINESS THAN THEY SHOULD HAVE THAT OUTLINED IN EITHER THERE CLOSING OR IN THEIR CONTRACT!!

Need/Want!

AUTHOR: Jim - (USA)

POSTED: Wednesday, March 28, 2012

You don't "need" a life lesson? Your the one in repo land! Your the one in subrime land. Perhaps you should be getting your attitude fixed and be open to the suggestions people have given you during your "life" and you wouldn't need a subprime dealership. But the world is full of know it all females with an obvious attitude problem. While you're at it, look up the definition of "late". Ask a third grader if one minute past midnight is the same day as one minute before midnight. Maybe they can explain it to you in simple enough terms...that is if you have an open mind. Enjoy your subprime life!

A Few Suggestions

AUTHOR: Karl - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, March 28, 2012

First off save up a couple of thousand dollars and deal with a private owner for a car. There are plenty of old low mileage cars available and you will have an opportunity to review the service history, talk to the owner and so on. There is no need to go to a sub prime dealer. For just the excessive downpayment you can find all sorts of inexpensive, simple cars to buy. Normally any car is expected to go 100,000 miles without having to purchase suspension equipment -tie rods, etc. A 70k mile Pontiac G6  certainly should not require the things that yours did unless it had been abused, wrecked and repaired, or not maintained at all. If an 06 car had been in good condition a new car dealer would have probably put it on his used car lot. instead of selling it at auction. Did you check CARFAX to see if the car had a salvage title or an accident history?

For the comment about fixing your own car, most cars past 1990 are controlled by computer and average buyers do not have the equipment to diagnose codes and reprogram the computer. As for replacing tie rods, struts, and other suspension equipment you need to put the car on a lift and you need  heavy duty tools that exceed those found in normal homes. Failure to install this equipment properly will lead to severe and immediate handling problems at speed that can result in a serious accident. It sounds easy but isn't.

Buy the simplest car you can and check the Consumer Reports reliability record to make sure that you are buying a make and model that has a good reliability history like a Toyota or Honda. Stay away from cars loaded with electronic options and "luxury" cars of the past. Age isn't as important as condition.

Less than 24 hours late

AUTHOR: Florence - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, March 28, 2012

I don't need a life lesson from you. I know I was late BUT it SHOULD be made known that you can not be 24 hours late. My contract clearly states if your are in default for MORE THAN 30 DAYS you MAY be subject to reposession. That is my entire point. It's obvious that whomever walks into JD Byrider is there for a reason. That doesnt give businesses a right to practice unfairly. Let me spelled it out for you genious. IF THAT IS THE WAY THEY CHOOSE TO OPERATE, CONSUMERS HAVE A RIGHT TO KNOW. Get it now?

Averting Nonsense

AUTHOR: Jim - (USA)

POSTED: Wednesday, March 28, 2012

YOU avert nonsense by making your payments on time. You were with a SUBPRIME dealership because YOU have a history of making late payments. The "nonsense" is YOU still haven't learned to keep your word.

I stand by what I said earlier

AUTHOR: Florence - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, March 26, 2012

That feeling of "security" means that if a company has policies that are as harsh as these they should possibly state it in their contract or perhaps when you purchase the car. We were not even 24 hours late when they repossed our car. Or should I say "their car". I don't believe there is a person on the planet that has not been even a few hours late when making a payment somewhere.

If this is the way they operate then perhaps the should state this to you so that you know this ahead of time. The reason they don't is most likely why people get suckered in. Only to realize later on that they have ran off with your down payment and give you no option to make things right.  I know I would have never agreed to put myself through agony in trying to rush a payemnt to them when I get out of work after they close. These are the circumstances I am talking about. Wether or not you work for them doesn't matter to me. You are obviously on this site for a reason, maybe someone suckered you. In any event all they have to say is the TRUTH and all this nonsense could have been averted.

Know What You Buy

AUTHOR: James MK - (USA)

POSTED: Sunday, March 25, 2012

Brittany,

I don't know why you have a bad credit rating so won't comment about it other than to say I once had not-so-good credit but fixed it. It's not that difficult to repair but it does involve paying bills on time and, consequently, avoiding receiving bills you can't afford to pay. End of lecture.

One way of avoiding large bills AND being able to drive a used car with reasonable reliability is to learn how to perform most basic repairs yourself. And no this does not require becoming a mechanic, it simply requires purchasing a repair manual for your particular vehicle such as those published by Haynes and a few basic tools. This will not only save you a bundle but after a little while you become proficient enough to be able to tell if a used car you're interested in has obvious issues that should be avoided or used to haggle the price down (I love this part when the dealer notices you are not the idiot he thought you were).

As a concrete example, among the repairs you had done on your car I see only two you could not have done if you had a repair manual: the shaft job and the wheel alignment. Replacing the brakes, tie-rod ends and sway bar links is far less complicated than it sounds and parts are not that expensive. Just a sidenote, when they say brakes need replacing they usually mean brake pads and/or disks and/or brake shoes (for drum brakes) need replacing, not the whole braking system. Those parts are not expensive at all, less than 30$. As for the struts it's easier to DIY if you buy the whole strut assembly which comes with new springs already installed, than just the struts on their own because this would require you to go to a shop due to the need of a spring compressor.

Dont always judge!!!

AUTHOR: Akymomof5 - (United States of America)

POSTED: Saturday, March 24, 2012

I am a hard working mother who after 23 years of a very controlled and abusive marriage found the strength to say enough is enough!! I have children in age ranging from 20 to 2 and after a divorce that cost me thousands even with a judge ordering a 6 year DVO (domestic vilolence order) and countless issues with no support and harrassment and just plain contol games of "if she finds it way too hard to survive on her own she will have to come back to me cause I have changed even if I still treaten and use the children ect ect" I have had supervised visits and even department of child protective service step in on my behalf. my ex who controlled all finances and paid all bills but due to me being his spouse not only ruined his credit (mind you I was never allowed to work cause it was "MY PLace to stay home a rear the children and keep the house clean and supper cooked) I was also not allowed with out my husbands consent to get my tubes tied or due to being on his insurance to get on birthcontrol and of course the hell to pay if I went behind his back needless to say ened up with children I love very much and have no regrets that they are in my life just wish they had a dad that cared.

I was awarded our home by the judge only to find out after he was removed by law enforcment for things that involved my childrens school being put on lock down and even threating a sherriff while he was trying to help me, I found out we were already in default on our home and had to find a job and work sooo hard to save. I have to say after all this time I am doing better finding a way to juggle being a dadless mother and feed clothe and provide a home for my children with out being on any welfare other then medical insurance. I am one who has bad credit cause his dead beat butt stopped paying any debts and I had my mimimum wage job pay garnished and my bank account garnished cause he was dragging the divorce on and on and on then when the loan company repoed my vehicle cause even against judges orders he decided not to pay the vehicle awarded to me ( which was less fancey then his and got me to and from work and our children to school and daycare!! of course I dont wear abercobie have a gym memebership and take my dates to exclusive resturants I was left with no way to get to work or get my babies to daycare and school.

so I had to do the buy here pay here option. I too paid way to much for my car that is too old and too small ect. however it bothers me that you would judge someone and say can we talk. Walk in their shoes feel their pain understand why they got where they are first. I never asked for my pain nor did my children. I wish life was perfect and dad would pay his supprt but he can't muster is 58.00 a week and wow that goes sooo far today.

By the time I pay to put a roof over my kids head and feed and clothe them and make my car payment I am lucky to be able to breath. Everyone makes mistakes mine was trusting a man that he would love me forever and then trusting that he would never hurt me or his children. I know even with all our struggles we are better off alive and with each other then dealing with what we did!!! Just show some compasion cause you dont know what brought this person to need their dealings aired on this site over a buy here pay here and I have even joined a support group and learned there are many who have elderly parents that ruined their credit.

have an open mind and a kind heart to every one.

god bless,

Nope

AUTHOR: Jim - (USA)

POSTED: Tuesday, March 13, 2012

This "feeling" of security you wrote about vanished NOT because of them but because YOU failed to live up to the agreement YOU made. You couldn't even afford the down payment...how is this their fault? You brought your subprime reputation of not paying your bills ON TIME into this and now given another chance, what do you do? You STILL disregard the due date! The payment is DUE on the day it is DUE . The due date is not optional. You could have made some arrangement to get that payment to them. They have heard ALL the excuses but the bottom line is for all they know, you were simply living up to your established reputation. And no...I don't work for them.

#2 REBUTTAL Owner of company

5600 Sahara ave. in las Vegas, Please don't buy from them!

AUTHOR: Florence - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, March 12, 2012

On January 14th we decided to purchase a car from JDByrider on 5600 Sahara Avenue Las Vegas, NV 89146. We gave $600.00 down and were told that we had to make payment of $200.00 for the next couple of months
in order to complete our $1500.00 down payment.  We completed the paperwork from with a gentleman named James who is the Finance Manager at this location. Lou Rodophele is part owner and Don Charlebois is partnered with Lou.  Our last installment of our down payment was due on March 9th 2012.   After working that Friday I assumed we would
be able to pay the next day which would be a Saturday.  Well, the day got the better of us. We ran errands and had received phone calls from them but knew that we would either get to it that day or in a worst case scenario on Monday morning.  At 11:40pm or so on Saturday evening we were running out to get a gallon of milk. We saw our car pulled out from our spot in our condominium complex. My Boyfriend confronted them and they advised us they
were there to repossess the car.  We were in disbelief. How could they come get the car after only one day late?  We waited it out on Sunday as we could not do anything on that day because the business was closed. On Monday March 11th 2012 after trying to get a hold of the correct person (which in this case was Jerry Slaughter Finance Manager) we were told that we could not pick up the car and that was not an option.

I am a 33 year old working class woman who has a 15 year old son and lives in Las Vegas, NV.  I went to JDByrider for all the other reasons people have gone there.  I have less than perfect credit. My FICO credit score was a 611 when I walked in there 2 months ago and now after trying to build it, I will have a much greater task than what I started with.

I will probably have to now file bankruptcy Chapter 7 because the car is obviously a loss cause (they will not work with me).  I can get the car back with Chapter 13 but why would I? Why would I want the car back when they obviously interact on a very unfair business level?

This post is simply a post that has started because of what I am facing at this time.  I work for an agency and I had to call them today and tell them the harsh truth of my story. Thankfully, there are still people in this economy that care and I can finish out the week and she will look for something for me that MAY be accessible to me by public transportation.  I can only go day by day at this point but I feel very strongly about the business practices of JDbyrider.

This post serves as a word to the wise. Please dont be as nave as I and my boyfriend were. If you are in a jam of any sort KEEP calling around. If JDByrider is your last option then please understand that after being only one day late, as I was, that your whole entire world can be placed upside down. That is not the feeling of safety and security that you are supposed to have when rebuilding your credit and purchasing a vehicle for yourself and your familys well being.

Shall We Talk???

AUTHOR: Jim - (USA)

POSTED: Friday, January 21, 2011

The "key" to all this is your credit. You gave yourself bad credit because of a history of not paying your bills on time. Is this the end of the world? Of course not, unless you keep it that way. Because of your bad credit, you were forced to go to a subprime dealer/lender to get a car. What you find and what you get from these places is generally tired, worn out high mileage cars with problems. Should these dealers market an acceptable product instead of JUNK? Of course! You didn't pay for a car which won't run. At this point, there's not much you can do but this takes us back to that "key" I spoke of earlier. As a mother, as a human, you want to buy a car you can trust. If you can work to improve your credit, then maybe your next car can be from a regular dealership.
