I contacted this agency to settle the debt I was fighting with about fingerhuts bad products and customer service. After giving up i wished to settle the dispute and get on with my life and learn it as a lesson to all of us. They said they would settle for $370. The rest of the balance they climed was just there phony charges late fees ect. So I sent them the money. They agreed they would file on the credit reports the debt was paid in full. What they did next is extemly cleaver and dishonest. They showed I paid the money on the credit reports but also I still owe them the balance and now show me being late every month to a new dated debt that will stay on the reports another seven years.

I have a letter stating that the debt was settled but they refuse to correct it on the credit bureau and actually they hurt me more then if I would not of settled. Because the time is almost up for it to drop off but now the way they report it it will be years again and it shows me not paying on a new debt not a old debt. They are a real piece of work these people.

AUTHOR: Compucredit - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, March 14, 2005

you are wasting your time if you go to an lawyer or anywhere now. You'll spend more money then what it's worth. You should have just paid it in full and been responsiable. Ps the fingerhut company closed three years ago.

The Saga countinues Compucredit purchased all the debts

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, March 14, 2005

After many phone calls it turns out that Compucredit purchased all the debts. Even though the account was settled and paid in full and was reported to them as paid in full,Compucredit just shows it as a made one payment and still owe the balance which is just charges tacked on. They restarted the seven year period and now show me 120 days late. Also fingerhut will not give out there phone number and I cant find this info. So like the other commenter mentioned I have all the letters so ill have to turn it over to the attorny general. I felt I should keep you a breast on how sneaky they are.

Robert is correct - all lies, don't believe a word they say to you!

AUTHOR: Richard - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, March 13, 2005

Actually, what Robert described is quite common. Say you have a $1000 debt in collections. The collection agency will offer to settle for $500 and promise to clear the person's credit report. What in fact happens is they collect the $500, sell the remaining $500 debt to another collection agency, and start the clock back to the beginning of the seven-year period. If you are approaching the end of the seven year cycle, you are better off not doing anything, because any payment you make starts the clock at the beginning.

Do not understand

AUTHOR: Tom - (U.S.A.)

compucredit said "Your credit report will show paid in full, settled account. " If the account is paid in full and settled why would you have to pay it off again? Your email is extremely unclear.

just because you pay and account to settle it doesnt mean it goes away

AUTHOR: Compucredit - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, March 12, 2005

just because you pay and account to settle it doesnt mean it goes away. Your credit report will show paid in full, settled account. So the balance just doesnt vanish. You may have to repay it someday if you end up going for a loan of some sort.

You Have A Letter Indicating Debt Was Settled?

AUTHOR: S.n. - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, March 12, 2005

You need to copy this letter and send it to the credit reporting bureaus advising them that this debt has been settled, copy of letter attached as proof, and that the item is to be removed from your credit report. You might also wish to cc everything to your state Attorney General's office, the Attorney General's office in PA and to the FTC. Good luck.
