Jennifer Haines missed 3 months rent, infected the unit with bedbugs, and her boyfriend broke down the kitchen door. OSHAWA, Ontario

Jennifer is on welfare. Her two daughters live with her. Her rent was being paid directly to us by social services. She moved in on April 1. She cancelled the direct payment to us and started to collect rent money from welfare. She did not pay rent for January, February, and March of the following year.

We took her to the Landlord and Tenant Board. The Board does not collect money from the tenant, they simply provide an order than can be enforced if you apply to the Small Claims Court.

She complained about bed bugs after she had them for 2 or more months. We had to assess the whole building for bugs and then spray her unit. She did not prep the unit and therefore spraying was not as effective as intended to be.

Her boyfriend smashed in the window and kicked in the kitchen door.

He is in jail for another reason and the police officer would not tell us his name, and Jennifer Haines would not tell us his name. We were lucky to get his name from the Judicator when we were in a Landlord Tenant hearing.

Rent was $790 per month. It cost $170 each time we filed (2 times). Bug assessment and spraying was approx. $ 600 and the door is almost $1500.00.

The Board has nothing to do with small claims court. The arresting police officer would not tell us when the boyfriend was going to court so we could make a plea for money to replace the door.

Beware of Jennifer Haines, she has lived in social housing and is on social assistance. She feels the world owes her all the support she needs because she is a single mother.

Although she filled out the application as a non smoker with no pets, she did smoke and had a dog. If she or someone she knows breaks something in the apartment she is not willing to pay for any damage. She cries in court to garner sympathy.  A real con !

We are happy to report that she is evicted as of April 1 of this year. We are ecstatic to see her go.
