I took my 1995 Rodeo to Jiffy Lube for the basic oil change. While there the technician servicing my truck called me out into the bay area to point out other parts he felt need additional servicing of the vehicle. All of which I answered that i would wait because my son was returning home and I would have him look at them. He did mention that the brake fluid was low, which was an indication that my brakes needed to be checked. This visit was no different than those in the past except when I drove on to work,I noticed a slight drag when accelerating through the stop and go rush hour traffic. Not thinking that anything serious might be wrong, being I just left Jiffy Lube. I drove home from and noticed this drag when I shifted but still thinking nothing seriously wrong. Early, the next morning(3am),I proceeded to Morgantown,WVA, to pick-up my son and bring him back for the New Year. About 85 miles from Morgantown, WVA and 180 miles from home my truck stop pulling as I proceeded up a mountain. Stranded in the mountains, cell phone not working due to location after about 15 minutes, a state trooper stop and called a tow truck. After about 20 minutes he came and towed me back to his location and called the local car dealer about a rent-car, which I got. Finally getting my truck towed back home(Forestville, MD), I had my mechanic check out the problem. He lifted the hood and imediately discovered that the wrong fluid(gear oil) had been put in the clutch master cylinder instead of brake fluid, causing the master cylinder, slave and clutch to become defective and needed replacement. Having been informed of this, I went to Jiffy Lube and told them what had happen. They investigated and concluded that they were not at fault. Knownly, that they were the only one who had access under the hood of the truck, I informed them that I was not satified and would pursue some other course of action to remdy the problem. Three weeks and more than $1500 dollars later, I got my truck back. I am still pursuing repartion for my loss of money, time and hardship. This case will most likely end in court.

never has it been in Jiffy Lube's policy to top off brake fluid or clutch fluid.

AUTHOR: E. B. - (U.S.A.)

First thing I will mention to everyone reading this, I am a ex-JiffyLube manager for a different Company (most jiffy lubes are franchises). After being in this industry for the past 5+ years, never has it been in Jiffy Lube's policy to top off brake fluid or clutch fluid.

You may want to check with the Jiffy Lube in question and ask if they every top off these fluids if low. I suggest calling and not identifying who you are. Just say that you noticed that yours was low and wanted them to top it off. Also check your invoice that the gave you. It should list all fluids topped off or low if they don't topped them off for free.

I always made it a policy to take care of my customers. The mistake most consumers make, and i have made this mistake, is losing your temper. whenever you have a problem with your vehicle, always take the vehicle back to where you last had it serviced. If this is not possible, contact them before you authorize any work. If you authorize the work and then go back against that company you most likely lose any suit you may take against them.

Best of luck. Remember to keep a cool had when ever you have a complaint against any business.
