January my oil was changed. May I go elsewhere for another change and they tell me: 1. That there is no oil to change. 2. The drain pan is ruined. 3. It has to be replace or it won't hold oil. 4. That Jiffy Lube stripped the drain plug and did not tell me. Even if they did not strip it they should have noticed this and replaced it! An engine without oil is not safe and neither is it now after they have replaced it with their pan kit. Now I have to fight for a new engine from them so my car is safe to drive again.

Not Possible....

AUTHOR: Robert - (USA)

POSTED: Tuesday, May 24, 2016

If you got your oil changed in January and your car lasted until May, it is impossible for anything that they did in January that would have caused you to require a new engine now.

First, of all if a car engine has no oil it is unlikely to last 5 miles..let alone 5 months.

Second, every vehicle has an indicator light or alert if you have low oil pressure.  So if you truly had no oil(or even low oil) this indicator light should have been on.  Had they stripped this when they changed it in January, even a slow leak would have had an indicator light by Feburary or March at the latest.

Third, just about every manufacturer recomends an oil change every 3 months or 3 thousand miles, which ever comes first.  By your own admission you were at 5 months.

Fourth, if you did have a slow leak from the oil pan you at some point would have noticed oil under your car.

If you were able to drive your car in for an oil change and had no indication of any issues or problems, once you put oil back in there is no "safety" issue in the engine.  But of course if you think there is you can have your engine inspected.  But if you went right to the "I want a new engine" wtih no diagnostics or proof that your engine has damage that is going to go no where.  When you combine that with the entire situation, don't expect them to do anything for you.

Now, what could be very likely instead?  That the company you took your car to this time is actually the one who damaged your pulg/pan and hoped you would believe their "story". Because had they not told you, and they did damage the plug you would have seen how quickly a car has issues with no oil.
