Show customers why they should trust your business over your competitors...

I am currently an employee at Jimmy Johns in Morgantown, West Virginia. I have been working there a little less than a month as an in-shop worker. When I first started working here it came to my attention that there were many minor rules in which could lead to you getting fired or yelled.
Very minor things such as not using a scooper when you put mayo on the bread, or after the first week if you can't name all the sandwiches, or if your not clean shaven, the list goes on and on. all of which you could be fired for on the spot. Think about your at work trying to do your job and something so simple could lead you to being fired.

Recently I was taking an order on the phone for a customer, just normal procedure on a normal day at work. The customer asked me how long the order would take to get there and because we were backed up with deliverys that day, and I mean backed up enough were 6 drivers each had to deliver several orders at once. I told the customer that it would be roughly a half hour or more because she asked. When someone calls for an order and asks how long it will take would you rather have the person give you a rough estimate, or just say I don't know? Obviously telling them a rough estimate is better. Which is exactly what I did.

However, our regional manager was in today. He stops in every once in a while, in which case everyone know about it because of how he treat his employees. Hes the kind of manager that you everyone hates. All I ever heard while working there is when JAKE comes in shop you better watch yourself because he likes firing people. He is also very aggressive, and quite frankly hes a complete jerk-off. He rages out at times and curses in front of employees and customers.

After the order I took (where I told the customer it would take a half-hour) Jake came storming in asking who told the customer on the phone how long her order would take. So i told him it was me and what was the problem. And he replied that I should never tell a customer how long it would take for her food to get there, ever. I didn't realize that would be a problem, by telling her a half hour. In fact, the food got there faster than a half hour.

However, instead of just telling me Hey don't do that again. Jake decided to start screaming at me very aggressively telling me I had a bad attitude, and completely blew the entire situation out of proportion. I held my tongue, and said little, and when I tried to get back to work, he took me in the back and yelled at me again. Now hes the manager, and I never in my life had such a disrespectful, ignorant manager as him. He told me to go home because of my attitude, and because I made a simple mistake by telling a customer. Jimmy Johns should be ashamed to have such terrible management and such a terrible person in charge of other co-workers. If he freaks out over such a minor thing like this imagine what hes like when its a real situation. I find it completely unprofessional to be treated this way as an employee at Jimmy Johns. Jake shouldn't be a manager if this is how he conducts business on a daily basis.

If anyone thinks about applying to Jimmy Johns, just remember that there are managers like Jake you could be working for and honestly its not worth it.

To the disgruntled employee

First of all I would like to state that I have only heard of for about 30 minutes now.  I was looking up a veterinary clinic that I took my dog to and saw a link to ripoff report about it.  After reading the reports about the vet clinic and finding out what this website was about, just out of curiosity I put in the company that I work for; Jimmy Johns.  I was not surprised that there were a few reports on Jimmy Johns, as it is a fairly large company, but to my complete surprise ther was a report directed at my boss Jake!

Now Jake has been both my indirect and currently direct supervisor and I have worked for him for a few years.  I was working for him in 2012 when this origional report against him was made.  Yes, Jimmy Johns does have work rules, all jobs do.  I have spent most of my life working in the food service industry and every job has had certain requirements that all employees must follow.  The rules at Jimmy Johns are very clear and not at all hard to follow.  Yes you need to have a clean looking apearance, most people do not want someone who looks unkempt and like they just rolled out of bed handling and handing them their food.  Yes, we all have to use a mayonaise portioner when applying mayonaise on the sandwiches.  This creates consistency throughout the chain.  All corporate and franchised restaurants have requirements like this so that you get the same product in West Virginia as you do in Idaho, or Florida, or whatever location you happen to order from.  The fact that you seem surprised by this leads me to believe that this is possibly your first job, or that you have had the same types of problems at other jobs you have had in the past.

Believe me, I know that Jake is not always the easiest person to work for at all times, but I do know that he is exceptionally good at what he does.  He is a natural leader and leads by example.  I deal with Jake on a daily basis, and I am never afraid to ask him for help or to get his advise on any issue.  There is no doubt in my mind that you exagerated in you initial report.  Why you would do this is unclear to me.  Maybe you have had problems with him because it is hard for you to follow the rules.  Maybe it is a personal vendeta against all management or authority figures.  I do not know, nor will I ever.  And actually, I don't even care.  I would just like to state my opinion that Jake is one of the hardest, if not THE hardest worker I have ever met.  I do know that the franchise we work for and the stores that he over sees would not nearly be as sucessful if he were not there.  To single him out and anonomysouly make a post on the internet like this shows a complete lack of respect.  I personally would work for Jake anywhere doing anything because I know that I can depend on him as a worker, as a leader, and as a team member.

First, I'd like to apologize for your experience with the company. Working for people you don't like does create alot of work stress.

Second, I'd like to tell you that you are in wrong. Jimmy Johns as a company is an awesome company to work for. I agree the rules set by Jimmy Johns corporate might seem a little extreme but it has worked for them since 1983. I manage a Jimmy Johns in another state and will continue to do so as long as I am making a satisfactory paycheck. The fact of the matter is YOUR Jimmy Johns is a bad place to work. You work for a franchise of Jimmy Johns and therefore can't be considered as the entire company. I also work for a franchise and to be honest, I've fired 3 employees in the first month I was a manager due to the breaking of some of the very rules you dislike.

The reason for this is that if we have employees that dont care enough to follow simple rules like shaving and not knowing the menu of the restaurant you work in then there just isnt a place for you. Keep in mind that we have all had experiences were we have been a patron somewhere and left thinking " Geez that person was an idiot." When an employee of Jimmy Johns can't follow a simple rule like learning the menu so that they can confidently speak with customers about our products then you turn into the aforementioned idiot in the customers eyes.

Comments like yours, where you just generalize your complaint can have damaging effect on other business owners that have nothing to do with your situation. Simply put, if you don't like your job just quit!
