 Called Michael to set up FREE consultation.  His written bid was less than professional, but he seemed eager to do the work, so I had him re-write the bid at least 3 times prior to submitting to insurance company.  After verbally advising I would allow him to do the work, I asked for him to bring more samples of carpet and laminate as I was not 100% satisfied with what I had see thus far.  He complained when he arrived in my home for the 2nd time to look at samples, complained when I chose carpet throughout the home rather than laminate.  He insulted me by telling me I needed to stop trying to match things in my home, tried to tell me what a pain the carpet pattern would be to intall, insisted he didn't know where to purchase Dunn Edwards paint per my request to match what I already had in my home, then he said women are a pain for changing their minds about style selection. He did nothing but complain. 

My husband & I was forced to live in a hotel due to water damage. 

I provided a deposit so he could start that weekend (it was friday) per his request to purchasing baseboard and doing the prep work needed as so not to lose any time. I gave a $500.00 deposit.  One hour after he left I tried to call his cell and got no answer, which was a first.  I wanted price per SQF for the carpet.  I called like 5 times, leaving messages then final one stating I wanted to cancel. When he finally called back he gave me the price but only after insulting me, then admitted he did NOT purchase supplies as he said he would but in fact paid his personal bills instead.  I emailed stating I was canceling with him and wanted my money back.  Over the course of two additional phone discussions with my husband he pleaded asking if he could still do the job.  My husband refused and again stated we wanted our $500 back.  He agreed to refund the money.

A month goes by after my email 30 day notice to refund, he claims to have been in jail and still planned to pay us back, that he needed 30 days.  In Jan 7 days prior to the end of his 30 days I showed up at his home to discuss face to face if he would in fact have the money.  Garage door open, his truck in the drive way; however he refused to answer the door.  The then sends me a rude angry email indicating how he refuses to pay me back due to all his time & effort put into our job and that if I wanted to take him to court to go ahead.  Mind you he had performed NO work at all, no contract signed, just free estimate and showed samples. 

I tried to contact his father who also does the same work, owns the licence to which Michael said he worked under but got no response from him.  Turn out, after further investigation Jose Trejo of United Flooring lic has been expired for years.  Father & Son running two companies under the same phone #, living in the same home with expired contractors licence.

DO NOT HIRE , HE IS A THEIF!!!!
