Well i was Driving Home from seeing my friend in the hospital and i heard something about acting on the radio. I listened and it was taliking about making it on your favorite T.V. shows like Suite Life of Zach and Cody on Disney. They also said space was limited to the first 200 people who call.
SO i called and they gave me a date to go and i called one of my other friends to do it too. he called the next day and he stll got accepted to these so called "auditions."

So i finally went and they congratulated me and everything and they made it seem so real. When i recieved that call from them by the way right at the end they quickly said you need to bring the tuition ready and hung up. My Family is Low-income so when we went to the main office we were Shocked.

My mom did not want to do it but just the way they made it sound made m want to sign up soooo bad.

So my mom paid and they promised my mom she wouldnt have to pay anything else. (Turns out we did) I got my Pictures taken and when we went to go get prints they gave another list of prices. So we told them we are low-income and we can't pay anymore. We also explained how they said we wouldn't have to pay anymore. So we kept calling everyday and they would always stall it and i noticed on the contract it said you can' get a refund after 21 days. I Find out they stalled just enough time for that 21 days to be over.

My mom has been in such depression lately and all i ever think about is Jrp 24/7. My main concern was would we still be able to take them to court even after signing the contract?

Thank you very much to those of you who spent the time to read this and i'll thank you if you can answer me back.

JRP AND ACT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH ONE ANOTHER. THEY ARE ACTUALLY COMPETITORS! YOU PEOPLE REALLY MAKE ME LAUGH AT YOUR IGNORANCE!

THANK YOU CBS FOR REMINDING EVERYONE THAT THE RATE OF SUCCESS IN THIS INDUSTRY IS ABOUT ONE IN FIVE THOUSAND. THANK YOU FOR SHOWING US THAT OUT OF FIFTY CHILDREN, WITH THE DREAM OF FAME, PROBABLY ONLY ONE, IF ANY, ARE READY TO JUMP IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA WITHOUT ANY FURTHER TRAINING. THANK YOU FOR SHOWING OUR AD ACROSS NATIONAL TELEVISION WHICH HELPED SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT US BEING THE BEST ACADEMY FOR ACTING, MODELING AND OTHER TALENT! THANK YOU TELLING US HOW THE AD SAYS; "HEY KIDS, DO YOU WANT TO BE THE NEXT BIG STAR" NOT "HEY KIDS, YOU ARE GOING TO BE THE NEXT BIG STAR" PROVING WE MADE NO 'FALSE HOPES'! THANK YOU FOR SHOWING THE WORLD THAT MY BOSS (AND THAT'S 'MR.GAMMON' TO YOU) KNOWS HOW TO DRESS IN STYLE! THANK YOU FOR REMINDING THE PARENTS THAT IF THEY DO NOT WANT TO ATTEND, IF THEIR CHILD IS EVEN ACCEPTED, THEN THEY DO NOT HAVE TO SIGN UP AT ACT OR ANY ACADEMY. THANK YOU FOR NOT TALKING ABOUT ANY OF THE SUCCESSFUL STUDENTS WHO COMPLETED OUR COURSE, BECAUSE THEIR SCHEDULE IS BUSY ENOUGH AS IT IS! THANK YOU ONCE MORE FOR NOT REALLY PROVING ANYTHING BUT THE OBVIOUS! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

SORRY YOUR CHILD DIDN'T MAKE THE CUT, BUT THAT'S NO REASON FOR SLANDER!

#11 UPDATE EX-employee responds

George Gammon is a fraud.

AUTHOR: Be-informed - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, March 21, 2009

I was employed at the San Rafael office of John Robert Powers from September of 2003 to January 2004.

I was 22 years old. I had just moved to San Francisco and needed a job. I found an ad in the SF Chronicle for an entry level entertainment agent with a company called JRP. I was excited when I was told that I had an interview and I was looking forward to a long career within their ranks.

I will tell you now. They scam their employees too.

George Gammon is a smooth talker. I got the job but it wasn't the agent job that I thought I was getting. I had to go through their training... cold-calling, working the mall kiosk, organizing the "auditions", and a laundry list of other fruitless tasks.

I was happy to do this mindless work at first because I thought that it was just all part of the process. And it is. It is just not the process I thought I was signing on for.

So I finished the grunt work and after a couple months they started training me for the agent, read "sales" position.

They told me what clothes to wear, down to what style of collar and cuffs on my shirt.
They sent me to get my hair done, a manicure, and facial.
They recommended that I move and get a nicer car.
They told me that we would have to make a story for me, maybe Im an ex-child star or something. You get the point. Sell the Dream.

All of this of course at my own expense.

I had conference calls with the two owners of that particular branch, George Caceras (sp?) and Michael Palance (sp?), they just sold it more.

Things started to get shadier as the weeks past. I started to see how the real "Audition" process went.

The following was a normal experience that I witnessed.

The leads (talent) are brought in from different sources, kiosks, radio/tv ads, and yes even straight out of the phone book. First the tele-marketers hit them. These well-scripted calls are the ploy to sell you on the audition. They tell you there is some casting agent (on numerous occasions they didn't have anyone to audition for so the "Agents" would be the sales people, like George Gammon or Lindsey McDaniels ). The people that agree to come in are never told about the classes or tuition. We were instructed to try and change the subject or hang up if someone ever questioned us about the classes/tuition.

So you get the follow up call the day before you come in. It is necessary for them to fill the audition in order for them to be able to make a good pitch to you. Its called a cattle-call for a reason. Some family is going to invest in their child's dream.

Next they set up the pre-pitch. "We are so excited to see all of you", "Who want's to be a star", " You little Johnny come up here in front of everyone and read this piece of paper". Yadda Yadda Yadda. Then the casting director or whoever comes up there and states their credentials. Don't believe the hype. The real agents are paid to be there and they NEVER pick anyone at the calls because there is no profit for JRP in it. The hilarious ones are when the sales people try to pass themselves off as actors or directors. Its sad.

This whole show and dance takes about 15 minutes. Then everyone is brought into a room one at a time to go in front of a handheld camera and the "Agent". They read a couple lines and then they go home to wait for a callback.

At this point, you haven't wasted your money, just your time.

Callbacks are the next day. The Callbacks are strictly done by the salespeople. They call everyone back. Even if they have determined that you have no money, "Doesn't grandpa want to see his grand-daughter as a star?"

They don't pitch too hard on the phone. They don't talk about money. They talk a little bit about classes. The main theme is, "Your child is awesome and has a ton of potential. Come back and let's have another look at them"

Look parents, your child may be great. But more than likely they are not. Not to go off on too much of a tangent about this but if your child wants to act, or dance, or model. These are not the places to go. Do not let the love of your child cloud your common sense.

When you come back in they may or may not ask your child to read a couple lines, but the interaction with your child is only for a minute or two. What they want is your money! As much as they can get.

Their favorite sales chop they gave me was, "How much are you willing to invest in your child's career?"

That should say it all right there.

They hit you hard. They are very good salespeople and scammers. They are selling a dream that you can't see or touch. Its expensive too. From $2,000 at an entry level to $10,000 dollars for the top of the line classes.

Its always so cheery until the money comes up. The "agents" are aggressive. George Gammon abnormally so. They do all of this in front of your kids too. Anything they can do to bring the guilt and get your money.

Once you sign that contract and give them your money, thats it. You've flushed it down the toilet. You just bought someone a new rolex, or paid someone's mortgage for the month. The last thing that you did was help your child's future.

So what do you get for your money?

Classes. Thats another joke.

I have never seen a parent or friend in a class session. They are always told to wait outside. The classes that I was witness to while walking down the hall were laughable.

A bunch of teenage girls learning knock-knock jokes. How about a room of girl under 10 years old learning how to walk a catwalk from a middle school science teacher. Yes, you paid thousands for this.

All the while they are told that they are being submitted to casting directors, agents, managers. NO they are not! I never saw one fax, email, or heard one phone call go out to ANYONE in regards to talent. Its always money, money, money. You see the one "casting director" when you come for the initial audition and that is it.

Refunds. Yeah right.

I never saw a refund issued. I saw a lot of people ask for them but nobody was ever reimbursed. EVER. Phone calls were always cut short with, "We are not authorized to pay out refunds." People knocking on the door were turned away. Process servers were a weekly thing for the management. It was always a "Whatever it takes" attitude to keep the money.

I could go on more but I think this is enough.

Stay away from the people please. If you want classes for child hire a legit acting coach. If you want an agent for your child find out if you really need one. Look towards SAG and other organizations for guidance. Do your homework.

Your money is yours. Don't give it away so lightly based on the dreams of your children in conjunction with the BS fed to you by slick salespeople.

Remember that the entertainment industry is a hard one to break into. Some people struggle their whole lives to be successful and fail. If all you had to do was pay a couple thousand dollars to be a star, everyone would be a star.

CBS NEWS DOES UNDERCOVER REPORT ON GEORGE GAMMON and ACT

AUTHOR: Mom And Advocate - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, January 22, 2009

I see that ACT employees, are spamming consumer websites trying to combat the negative publicity. The same posts above are on many ACT (Academy of Cinema and Television) ripoff reports. They are called shills.

ACT has also changed their name to avoid the consumer reports. Academy of Cinema and Television is now also operating as ACT and as "THE" (pronounced Tay), a talent showcase. They have new websites with the new names. They travel around the country without mentioning their real names, their background with John Robert Powers, Pacific Modeling and Acting or the corporations they hide behind.

Lily Neda is now telling people that her name is Lily Verdu. As usual, she has no business cards or proof of any kind that she is connected to the real entertainment industry, because she isn't.

The CBS station in Atlanta, GA did an undercover consumer report in January 2009. WATCH THEM SQUIRM:

Same Game Different Name!

POSTED: Monday, February 25, 2008

I used to work at JRP too. Now they moved on from the Bay Area. They were running out of people to take money from so they have now put their show on the road. They now call themselves Pacific Modeling and Acting Academy or PMAA. They've set up shop in Seattle and tell people they've been in the business for years. They're running the same ads telling kids they are going to put them on a show "LIKE" Hannah Montana or Suite Life of Zach and Cody. They really only want to get 500 people in the door so they can con 25-30 of them out of their money.

Then they'll move on to another city making it much harder to be caught. They've teamed up with ACT, Academy of Cinema and TV or ACT. They're websites are almost identical, they use the same radio ads, the same postcards, supposed "Directors" bios are the same, their blogs are the same and the same guy, George Gammon buys their advertising. You thought they were bad in the bay area...watch out, they'll be visiting your city soon!

Mr. Scammy scam...

AUTHOR: Nick - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, February 22, 2008

I love showing how ignorant people are....

The audition process for John Robert Powers is in fact not an audition at all. (Yes it is. It is an audition for the academy, as well as for the agent/cd/manager)
It is a show to make you believe that you are part of an audition, and that you have been chosen to be a part of JRP
(like I said, its an audition for the academy).
You either responded to an ad on the radio or kiosk at the mall basically asking you to audition to become the next star on Hanna Montana or High School Musical. (No, you're hearing what you want, and not whats being said. Learn to use your ears)

Neither High School Musical nor Hanna Montana have anything to do with John Robert Powers. Disney does not support the John Robert Powers system! The marketing for JRP does not match the actual product or service provided. Every parent that can afford to put their child through the John Robert Powers system will make it into the school. The audition is not based upon talent. It is based upon the commitment from children and parents to pay thousands of dollars and to drive many miles for classes. Every single student that auditions for John Robert Powers will make it into the program if they are willing to pay the money.

(This again is false. But, I'm touching on more than what you were trying, sadly, to explain. A lot of people come to JRP to give their children development, NOT to make them become stars. We accept the children who are in it for the training and development for their well-being, their confidence, and their personality. Yes, there are some folk who want to get famous, and they come here with that intention. I see several people let down in that sense because being famous and rich is not a guarantee, nor will it ever be a guarantee. So the reason why we don't always accept people based on talent, is because we mold the talent, and develop the personality of those children who wish to better themselves)

The talent scouts that work for JRP are in fact sales people that make a commission on each and every child that signs up for classes at John Robert Powers. From the moment you sign the John Robert Powers contract, the state law says you have 72 hours to receive a refund. The problem with this is that at the time of signing the contract you have not been witness to the actual service which you are paying for, i.e. the acting and modeling classes; therefore, you have no way to know if the service you will be receiving is the service which you have just paid for until it is too late.
(This is true, you don't get to see the classes before you sign up. This is one flaw JRP has that hopefully could be rectified, but I can also understand why it is not allowed. The classes ARE expensive, and the last thing a teacher or a class wants is to be interrupted everytime a potential client wants to come in the room. I've actually had several students in various classes bring their friends or brothers or sisters to class with them on occasion to audit the class)

If you attempt to receive a refund within the 72 hours, the talent scouts ignore your phone calls on purpose because by calling or leaving a message on their phone, there is no way for you to track this attempt for a refund. The only way to receive your refund is to send an email to the talent scout within those 72 hours. But in most cases, their email was never given out. This is how John Robert Powers make all of their money. It is the sale of a complete lie. It is a sales pitch and marketing scam that preys on the hopes and dreams of children. 90% of JRP's business plan, energy and commitment is focused on their marketing and sales pitch which leads to the signature of their contract and very little of their profits go towards the education or classes that you have purchased.
(Ok, lets talk about lying for a second. You say you can't get your refund because the phone is never picked up and the only way to get it is through email. Hmmm, have you ever read a contract for JRP??? It clearly states you have to send a certified letter requesting the refund. That way the date is documented. There are no phone calls, there are no emails, its done by certified letter.)

Now this is where the real problem lies. Parents must question the credibility of each and every teacher that is in a classroom with their children!!! Parents must question rules about not being able to enter the classroom their children are in at any time they wish. The reason why parents are not allowed to enter classroom is because teachers are hired based upon their appearance not work experience, not credibility and definitely not credential. Whether they look like teachers or not does not constitute credibility, experience, or credential.
(ok, your idiocy has reached a climax! You think parents aren't allowed in the classroom because the teachers don't know what they're doing?? Seriously, what planet are you orbiting on? Most JRP's require a college degree in the field they're teaching to teach, those who do not, require an extensive background in acting or modeling with years of experience to teach. Call up any random JRP and ask!)

John Robert Powers hires teachers for their appearance, and does not reference check, does not background check, does not criminal check, does not fingerprint, and certainly does not train their employees for their teaching positions.
(You could ask any acting instructor who teaches at any studio if they've had to be fingerprinted to work there. And, yes, JRP DOES do background checks on their instructors. You're lying again.)

These thousand dollar classes, which you have paid for are bought by you the consumer before any curriculum or training of staff is ever implemented. Some of these classes do not even exist before you have paid thousands of dollars for them. Your child's instructor is thrown into the classroom with your child with no guidelines, no training, no background or criminal check, no fingerprinting, no tuberculosis testing, nothing!!
(TB testing? How many jobs have you had to get a stool sample for? How many jobs have you had where you get to get tested for STD's? I've been employed in the public school system and that's never happened. I didn't even get drug tested!)And is told to make lessons up as they go along.
(thats funny, because JRP has years and years of curriculum...hmmm, lying again are we?)

This is why you are not allowed to meet or discuss your child's progress with his or her teacher. Now don't just take my word for it, it is your responsibility as a parent to find this information out for yourself.
(where do you come up with this stuff?) Teachers are readily available after classes to discuss the progress with the parents. There are progress reports given every five classes!!!)

Just because your child takes home handouts from class does not mean he or she was taught the subject matter by a trained professional. Communicate with your children and communicate with your child's teachers!!
(This is the one thing I agree with : Communicate)

As for the auditions with Hollywood Agents, this is how they work: All agents are paid a fee to appear at the Audition for the John Robert Powers school system on Saturday and this same agent appears the following day on Sunday for the Auditions for enrolled students. Not a single child that auditions on Saturday for the John Robert Powers school system is ever, has ever or will ever be called back to sign with the Agent that has been paid to make his or her appearance.
(Hmmm, how do you know this to be true? If the agent is looking for something in particular, and they find it, they'll use it.)

Again, any child that has responded to an ad for JRP stating that he or she will be auditioning to be on television or film will never be called back by that Agent that has been paid to make an appearance at the John Robert Powers (JRP) Audition. The reason for this is because if an agent saw talent in one of these children who was auditioning and wished to sign one of these children, it would take away a sale for the JRP school system. These agents are paid to show up and shut up.
(if in your right mind, you believe an agent is going to suffer their livelihood for a company they don't work for, you have lost it! Agents don't care about JRP, they care about getting clients so they could make more money. JRP doesn't pay any agent to say no to a potential client. You're outta your mind, and clearly not in the business)

Now this does not mean that they are not legitimate Agents. In fact a few of these agents work for very respectable agencies.

The fact is that about 1-5% of the talent that comes through JRP is capable of working in the entertainment industry and agents are paid to make an appearance. Whether or not they have any intention of signing talent or not is a question for them to answer.
(So you just said the total opposite of what you were saying before. Hmm, You're calling yourself out on your own lies. Wonderful)

Now the real questions are weather or not you the consumer have been sold a service that you were expecting. Were you given a service that you are o.k. with? Are your children safe within this system? This is YOUR dollar and these are YOUR children! It is up to YOU to become aware of the truth and it is up to YOU to do something about it. Because you have signed a contract, you are legally bound to it. My 100% opinion and the opinion of many consumers around the country is that JRP is a lie and a SCAM, and by joining together with other individuals who are not satisfied with their experience you have a better chance of getting your money back a.k.a. CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT. If you feel you are a victim of Fraud or a SCAM operation, feel free to contact your local District Attorney.

John Robert Powers is a franchise operation, which means anyone with money can buy a school and run it any way they wish. From my investigations, all John Robert Powers schools run by the same blueprint aka their 'business plan'. The business plan spoken about in this posting is the business plan for John Robert Powers Santa Clara located on 4701 Patric Henry building 11, Santa Clara, CA with their sales office located at 5201 Great America Pkwy. Suite 441, Santa Clara, CA, owned and operated by Robinson, Pozos and a*s., LLC
(Well, you're just a little too ridiculous right now, so peace)

THE TRUTH ABOUT JOHN ROBERT POWERS (JRP)

AUTHOR: Jrp Scam - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, February 10, 2008

Attention Parents of John Robert Powers!!!

You have purchased a 100% complete lie. Each and every one of you needs to become familiar with two words; cash cow and scam.

scam (n) - a scheme for making money by dishonest means (slang)
(vt) - to obtain money from somebody by dishonest means (slang)

cash cow (n) - a profitable business or product with low overheads often used to fund other businesses or investments (slang)

The audition process for John Robert Powers is in fact not an audition at all. It is a show to make you believe that you are part of an audition, and that you have been chosen to be a part of JRP. THIS SCHOOL IS A JOKE

AUTHOR: Margaret - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, November 26, 2007

Back in 1985 I was at the mall with a freind of mine and there was some scam modeling agency/school taking names for a free gift and call backs. My friend and I signed up. She was interested and I was not, I only wanted the free gift.
Fast Forward 22 years later, my friends parents wasted a lot of money and she never made it big and definately had the talent. She works for the government and still talks about how her parents who were not rich either were ripped out of some of her college money.
So JRP, Page Parkes and all these other people who claim to have Hollywood connections are a bunch of liers and scammers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

JRP is not a SCAM

AUTHOR: Wisethinking - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, November 24, 2007

JRP is a wonderful school for new model and actors to get started. My recommendations is to follow thru on your original contract as you first promised. The only scam here is that you have failed to follow thru on your end of the deal.
