I should have used this site BEFORE going to Just Brakes...then I would have known their practices!

My car's brakes were squeaking, so I dropped off my car in the early morning for the $99 pads-and-shoes deal that they advertised - I'm new in Dallas, and thought they were my best option since I didn't know any local mechanics.

Mid-afternoon, I received a call saying that the car would need over $500 in repairs. The mechanic I talked too wouldn't give me too many specifics other than things like "weak hoses," "corroded rotors," "dirty calipers" and such. He said it all in a tone that was like he was reading from a script.

However, I had had my car looked at by a mechanic I TRUSTED only about a month ago, before I moved, and he had only mentioned some wear on the pads. So I told the Just Brakes rep that I just wanted the pads and shoes replaced. He quoted me a new price, around $350, and said he wouldn't do any work unless I consented to at least that price. I told him just to put it back together and write me out a list of what was wrong, and I'd get a second opinion.

When I came back to get my car two hours later, the front right tire was completely flat! The mechanic vaguely mentioned something about how it was fine when they put it back on, and how "slow leaks" can happen. These were 2-year-old tires that I'd checked one month ago and were filled when I came in. They finally agreed to fill up the tire, but accused me of "cussing them out" and "overreacting" when I simply asked to see a manager.

Five days later, and my tire is doing fine and has not lost any pressure. I'm not sure if the flat tire was due to incompetance or retaliation for turning them down, but I'm worried about what else they may have done to my brake system. I'm certainly doing my research before I take my car to another repair shop here!

Rotors Warp

AUTHOR: SUCKA! - (USA)

POSTED: Saturday, November 17, 2012

ILIC, No, I have no idea what a college student is.  My B.A.S just appeared out of thin air one day.
So, now it was 15 years ago?  You remember that clear as day?  I think youre recollection of memory is a little off kilter.

Youre not only racist, but sexist, too with your incorrect presumption that I am a "boy".

I repeat, I'm not defending Just Brakes by any means.  I've heard nothing but negative
comments about them and would never use them.  However, I do defend the following:
1.  A cheap brake job is exactly that;
2.  Fabricating an untrue story is completely unfair.
3.  Rotors do warp.

I've never been to any Just Brakes facility, nor would I ever choose to visit one.  Dateline NBC aired a scam slam dedicated to Just Brakes a couple years back.  Youtube it.  Anyone buying stock in them is probably loosing their butt.

Rotors can warp, even on a two year old vehicle.

Becoming an informed consumer goes a long way.  The Federal Trade Commission has a website just for you! www.ftc.gov.  As well, www.ehow.com is another awesome website for the consumer to learn about something they know nothing about PRIOR to making a ridiculous online complaint.

My Complaint is TRUE against Just Brakes

AUTHOR: ilic - (USA)

POSTED: Friday, November 16, 2012

To SUCKA!

Boy, you really are a dope.

My complaint is very much true. I also just happened to notice that I had made a comment twice on this blog. It could have been a late night. One has to go through a little bit of a process to even make a comment on the ripoff blogs and I would have not wasted my time with a False comment.

Anyway, you mentioned that you would never let your son drive a car with a "Cheap Brake Job".. I was 18 years old and 700 miles away from home when I started to hear my brakes squeal. As a college student (you do know what that is don't you?) I had limited money. I drove until I found the first brake shop I saw which was Just Brakes.

I had no knowledge about "Rotors" and "Warping" and all other mechanical terms. I just knew my brakes weren't suppose to squeal.

My story is very much true. I do remember the sum being somewhat signifigant. Very signifigant although Its been around 15 years now and I can't remember exactly how much. I was indeed the only one in the shop and the white guy did look like he had been drinking. He was disheveled. I did leave the shop and promise to come back the next day instead stopping by another shop who checked my car out, on the machine, IN FRONT OF ME, unlike Just Brakes with a device to measure the rotors.

I know much much more about cars now. More than I knew as a naive 18 year old kid with my first car. So forgive me for not knowing the intracacies of the wheel and for trying to save a few bucks.

The point of my previous rebuttals is STILL VALID however.. Just Brakes are CROOKS. Plain and Simple.

You must either own stock in the company or own one of their shady franchises. Shame on You.

Why Choose a Cheap Brake Job???

AUTHOR: SUCKA! - (USA)

POSTED: Friday, November 16, 2012

Why would anyone go in for a cheap brake job?  Slapping the cheapest of the cheap quality brake pad onto an old non-machined or warped rotor can potentially decrease your braking distance by up to 15 feet.  I would never place my son in a vehicle with such a crappy brake job performed, and I would hate to be you if your were travelling behind me too closely and smashed the entire front end of your vehicle on my trailer hitch because your braking distance wasn't as hot as you thought.

Ilic, you went in for a cheap brake job.  Did you really expect any better quality than $10 brake pads for that price?  Get real.  As well, I have a couple issues with your two complaints, one submitted 16Aug12 and the other submitted 30Aug12.  Both pertain to the same fabricated story, but your facts seemed to change drastically. My first question to you is, what does race have to do with anything?  Why did you insist on mentioning "black" and "white" people?

Ilic, 16Aug12 you said, in paraphrase, "I went to Just Brakes a couple years ago.  In no time, they returned with a brake repair estimate of over $450".  30Aug12 you said, in paraphrase, "I went to Just Brakes a few years ago.  After 30 minutes, they returned with a brake repair estimate of over $1000".

So, which is it?  Two years or more?  $450 or $1000?  You also stated on 16Aug the "mechanic" at the second shop you visited called Just Brakes and gave them hell  for falsely telling you your rotors were warped.  No mechanic in their right mind would EVER call another repair facility and do such a thing.  Then on 30Aug, you added that the mechanic said brake rotors on a two year old vehicle couldnt possibly be warped.  No real mechanic with any sort of knowledge would ever say such a thing.  How many miles did you have on the vehicle at the time?  What kind of vehicle was it?

I'm not defending Just Brakes by any means.  I've heard nothing but negative comments about them and would never use them.  However, I do defend the following:  1.  A cheap brake job is exactly that;  2.  Fabricating an untrue story is completely unfair.  3.  Rotors do warp.  They are made so cheaply nowadays.  And they inexpensive to purchase.  Machine a rotor and it is 80% guaranteed to warp within 8 months.

OMG..Just Brakes Lied to me Too Like My Rotors Were Warped.

AUTHOR: ilic - (USA)

POSTED: Thursday, August 30, 2012

I can't believe I am seeing that someone else went through the exact same thing I did with Just Brakes. A few years ago I went to a Just Brakes location to get a brake change. My car was only two years old at the time. Practically still very new. No one else was at the facility when I went there and that was the first red flag. There was a black guy behind the counter and a white guy in the office. When I went in, the white guy came out with his shirt hanging out and he looked disheveled. I overlooked this even though it did cause some concern and I told them I wanted a brake change. They drove my car around the back and about 30 minutes later he came out with a pad in his hand. He showed me a list of things I needed to get done or they wouldn't warranty the brakes. He stated both rotors were warped on my car and I needed to have them replaced. He quoted me close to a $1,000.00 to perform the job. I was shocked.

I was in college at the time but I told him I didn't have the money and I would need to call my father. I then told him I wouldn't have the money until the next day. He told me they would refuse to warranty my brakes unless I returned to have the rotors fixed. When I left the shop, I paid for the brakes and left the shop and immediately stopped by another shop. I explained to the man what had happened and he put my car on his machine for free and checked my rotors. He was livid. He told me he knew it sounded strange that both rotors would be warped if I hadn't been in an accident and with my car being so new. He tested my rotors with some device and he told me my rotors were fine. He said he was tired of Just Brakes who he said had been sued repeatedly lying to customers and ripping off customers to make an extra buck.  He was so angry he asked for their number and called them up and cursed them in front of me.

To top it off, they had went right next door to Autozone and had put some $10.00 brakes on my car. They were nothing but ripoffs.

You have to think twice now when going to mechanics. Too many out there are very dishonest and find it too easy to lie and get an extra couple of hundred off of you. My friend use to fix cars at a shop and he said they did it all the time. He said they would intentionally loosen bolts or unscrew things or disconnect wires and tell customers they could fix it for close to nothing and they always made extra money that way.

Just Brakes Almost Ripped Me off too! Lied to me like my rotors were warped.

AUTHOR: ilic - (USA)

POSTED: Thursday, August 16, 2012

A couple of years ago in Atlanta I went to a Just Brakes to get my brakes changed. I should have known something was up because the white guy in the office came out looking very disheveled and his shirt was hanging loose and it looked like he had been asleep. The black guy behind he counter also looked eery and in the middle of the day the place was completely empty. I was the only customer there.

I told them I needed my brakes changed and they took the car around the back. In no time the guy came out with a long form and showed me numbers and stated both of my rotors were warped and they were refusing to "warranty" the brakes because of my bad rotors. They quoted me a price of over $450.00. They wanted me to agree right then and there to have them replace my rotors and I refused. I was a college student and I pretended to call my dad for the money. I told them I would have the money the next day. They said ok.

Well, as soon as I left there I went to another shop. A different shop than just brakes. The white guy was so nice. I explained to him what I had just been told and he put my car up on a machine and took some type of measuring device and proceeded to measure my rotors without charging me. He then called me to the back and was livid. He stated my rotors were above standard and were fine. He stated he knew it sounded strange because my car was brand new. He wanted the number to the place and he called them and blasted them for lying to me and trying to rip me off and said it was mechanics like that, that give other mechanics a bad name. He said they had been sued so often that all they would do is change their name..

Not sure if there were affilitated with the Just Brakes but they had the same name.

Seems to be the norm for them. They got me for about 1K doing that. Pretty much the same repairs too. I could not afford it but didn't really feel I had too many options. I had to get it taken care of and they knew it. I think he even told me by law he could not let me leave like that. Good for you for only getting low tires though. I get suggestions from everyone I know now before I do anything here.
