Although it is a long time since this report was filed, I believe that my response is timeless.

It is true that mechanics will take advantage of female customers I guess where ever you might go, and even male customers. I have been going to just brakes for several years, every since I discovered that they use Valvoline Oil and carquest oil filters and have a reasonble price for thier oil changes.

I have been to that particular Just Brakes on 7th st and Betheny Home, and I must say that I wasn't too impressed with thier quality of work either. 

But generally speaking I think Just Brakes is a reputable company. In your case it is not unreasonble to assume that you really did need more work than just having brake pads replaced. That's part of thier job, to tell you what you really do need.

I've been in that exact situation, where it was pointed out to me other work that needed to be performed. And after inspecting it myself, in most cases I agreed with them.

If the cause you brought your car in for brake pads was that you were hearing grinding noises every time you braked,(which I suspect was the case) then yes, they were pretty far gone and you probably did need the work they suggested.

The trick is, don't wait that long. Take your car to Just Brakes for your oil changes and they will inspect your brakes at closer intervals so they don't get that far gone. It's much more cost efficient.

If you don't pay close attention to the maintenance of your brakes then it will end up costing you much more in the long run, that's just the long and the short of it.

And no, I'm not affiliated with Just Brakes in any way what so ever, I'm just a guy who really likes to take care of his vehicles.

Same story... accept with me it was a "safety issue" that had to be fixed.  I didn't have any safety issues until I took my car to Just Brakes.  No one ever pays $99.  I also have a buddy who used to work there who confirmed their shady operations.  He quit after he was told to replace the brakes on a brand new car.   

Kevin - Jacksonville (USA) is the apoligest for Just Brakes in numerous ripoff reports. Me thinks he has some interests in trying to protect the reputation of this fly-by-night outfit.

Per the request, I pulled out my receipt and on the top of the page it clearly states that you give Just Brakes permission to visually inspect your brakes but if they cannot put the car back together during this inspection due to damaged parts, you are responsible for paying them to fix the
car prior to putting your  car back together.   If Just Brakes provides you an estimate and you choose not to get the work done there, you are still responsible for paying for "whatever needs to be done" just to put your car together.    



Obviously we consumers are not mechanics and most people generally tend to believe the advice of professionals.  We are,  therefore, willing to believe the mechanic  AND the Sales Manager (who
happens to follow you to the garage so you now have two people telling you these repairs are absolutely necessary)  when  you receive your laundry list of items that need to be fixed.

 

After a search on this company (I wish I would have done so prior to visiting) I was directed to a long list of consumer complaints on a different website.   Again, I am simply hoping that this posting prevents another from having the same experience.

 

The previous writer is indeed correct in that you do have to give your permission to  have the work
done.  When the mechanic asked me what I could afford to do today I told him that it would either be one of two options.  I would spend  $99on  pads or $187 for  wheel cylinders.  Well of COURSE the wheel cylinders became the MOST IMPORTANT thing that I could do for my car.  I said fine do the wheel cylinder and I stepped out of the shop to call my brother.  I then called the mechanic over and asked him to speak with my brother who informed him that he was going to advise against the wheel cylinder replacement and just have him do the pads.

After the mechanic handed the phone back to me, he went to the shop and quickly put on the wheel cylinders.  Yes this did happen and yes the company could say that I originally gave my permission for the cylinders but I retracted the statement after the phone call.   By that time I simply wanted to leave, I paid, left and had my brake pads done somewhere else.    I recommend others simply avoid this situation all together by starting at a different shop.

I have been to one of thier shops, had work done, and saw this and dont think you are telling any of the story correctly. I pulled out my service order and nowhere on there does it say anything about not being able to put it back together you pay.....What you signed as Im reading mine now is you are agreeing and authorizing them to visually inspet the vehicle with the purpose of providing an estimate of repairs and that NO work will be done without your authorization or consent. I have a big dodge truck and thought it $99 would get it straight, wrong, my wheel cylinders were blown, my master cylinder was leaking into the power booster, and my front rotors were so far below the specification they had to be replaced. My hardware was damaged. They took me out to my truck, showed me everything, and gave me a price. Needless to say it wasnt $99, and I wasnt expecting it to be, so Igot the truck fixed. Works great. Its sad when people put these complaints on here especially about services and items they have no knowledge about feel they are getting Ripped Off. If any repair facility can fix you broken/leaking wheel cylinders, and brakes for $99 show me.....You had to authorize them to do those wheel cylinders.......look at your own reciept honey.....

They got me good for over 1k truck was still messed up had repairs done at another shop for over 400

When I saw the title of the company, I already knew what you were going to write.

The storyline changes from person to person but the material facts are the same.

I too had the misfortune of going into Just Brakes while passing thru Louisville, Kentucky.
At that time, they were not having the patrons sign the 'you better let us fix it or else' statements, but they were pretty aggressive with playing with people's emotions.

In my case, I had a child's car seat in the back of the car and the SALESMAN asked me 'how could I live with myself if something happened to my baby as a result of these faulty brakes'.

The upseting part of my little tale of woe is that I had a Toyota at that time. With all of the problems with that car's brakes (or at least what was being reported and speculated on at that time) made me more afraid....
I called my brother (to leave him a message to tell him I was going to be late) and as luck would have it, he answered.  He knew just enough about cars to be dangerous.

IN the end, my $800+ estimate was given a band aid after my brother informed them not to TOUCH the car until he got there.  Because they had other potential scams to run, and my car was on the lift, they were able to 'f(?ix' the brakes by just taking a layer off the rotars(?) and the cost was slightly under $100.00.  A week later I went to the dealer.  THE DEALER, fixed the brakes for $178.00.  Did I mention that the DEALER'S price was cheaper than the price of JUST BRAKES!

I would never ever send anyone there.

There is no way a reader can view this objectively because you posted a rip off complaint based on a contract that you admit you paraphrased.
