In March 1988, my son was sentence to 160 years in state prison with 80 suspended for 4 counts of non violent felony charges. he spent 10 years in state prison and was put on probation, he came out kept a job and met with his probation officer when time was due.

In 2000, he was charged again with a felony, after review of the court hearings, which was 2, the proceuting attorney put on his side first in October of 2000 , and then the Lawyer for my son put on his case in November of 2000, the Judge told my son and his attorney he would notify them of his ruling, well he never did , the next thing my son knew , was in feb. 2001 , the police department surrounded his house , scared the children and everyone involved to pick up my son. My son is not guilty of this crime , the Judge told him he felt that he was guilty because of his past, there was not sufficent evidence, only what the Judge felt. He was given another 7 years, and have spent 3 years of that time.

My concern is the amount of time the Judges gave my son, even if he's guilty of these crimes, Does he deserve LIFE in prison? I looked at his profile and his release date is Feb. 2044. he's now 40 years old and by his release date 0f 2044, he will be 80 years old. Isn't this life? So far he have spent 13 years in prison for non-violent felonies.

I feel that anyone that commit a crime should be punish, but this is just outragous, I have read cases after cases where people have actually took another human being's life and never given this kind of time in prison.

There's nothing I can do, I have spent money after money for appeals and nothing works, on this last case he was grant the right for an appeal, but it was denied.
where can i go to seek help?

What are the charges?

AUTHOR: Christy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, September 28, 2004

Do you mind telling us what the charges are? I am just curious to know what kind of "non violent" crime warrants a sentance of 180 years. Does he also have a long history of crime? Maybe it may be considered non-violent to you but maybe the judge considers it non violent. Maybe also since he was put in jail in 1988 and then served all that time only to get out and commit another crime, maybe that is proof that he was not rehabilitated.

I know as his mother, it is difficult. I think if you could elaborate a little bit more it would be helpful.
