On July 8, 2009 we purchased a 1994 Bounder from Kamper City at 5549 Akron Cleveland Rd., Peninsula Ohio 44264. We looked at it several days earlier and found some issues that we wanted fixed, water heater, check all tanks for leaks, sagging overhead cabinets and a broken window. They did repair these item before the sale was completed.

Our only other concern was that the engine did idle a little rough which their mechanic and salesman several times assured us the engine ran strong and was in good shape and I thought maybe just a tune up would cure the problem. The sale was completed on an As Is Basis because there were still 2 known problems, the generator did not work and the awning had some small holes. These 2 things we accepted. Needless to say we drove it home not more than a few hundred miles. We finally got it ready to go for inspection and tune up , only to get a phone call from the mechanic that he had very bad news. The engine was shot and was having blow by problems not only from the filler tube but the dip stick. He said we were sold a bill of goods. We contacted Kamper City since we felt that their mechanic and salesperson assured us that the engine was fine they should do something for us. I also feel they made in a sense a warranty on the condition of the engine. After several calls they finally did say they would do nothing. Now we are stuck with a motor home that will need between $5,000 and 7,000 dollars of work to replace the engine   They said that nothing was done to the engine but there is a newer oil filter and all the fluids where topped off, the oil was clean as I checked it before we left and now as our mechanic states it is all black and sludged up. The engine says it only has 45,000 + miles on it.

we feel we were lied to and misled on the condition of the engine just to make a sale.

Possible Mechanic Rip-off?

AUTHOR: Jason - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, February 25, 2013

OK, so you purchased a 15 year old vehicle, with-out a warranty. All of the concerns you had with the vehicle the dealership repaired for you. You checked the oil before you purchased the unit and all was clean and good and the vehicle drove fine. You take the vehicle to your mechanic and all of a sudden the oil is sludge? HE wants to charge you $7,000 for a replacement engine. Sounds like the mechanic is trying to sell you a bill of goods. An engine will not sludge with only 45,000 miles on it. Maybe your report should be with the mechanic and not the dealership that sold you your vehicle.
