*Consumer Suggestion: Solution to your problem now & in future

Show customers why they should trust your business over your competitors...

Rolled up in Home Depot asked me a a weird question and said they have a really good home theater system that was extra from a job they did that was paid for and there boss just takes the items they returns and sells it for himself! So afford $1950 for $700. Seemed legitimate opened it up looks good didn't realize it doesn't have a blue ray player it's just speakers! Lesson learned! Don't purchase crap even if it seems legit

Solution to your problem now & in future

AUTHOR: Logikal1 - (USA)

Over 40 yrs if there's one thing I've learned - sometimes the hard way - is Rule#1 is anything that sounds too good to be true [usually] is.  My spouse & I put a very simple fix in place 30 yrs ago to prevent this from happening to us (again): any purchase over a $150/we don't feel 100% certain about is put on hold for 3 days.  This let's the powerful psychological tricks used by informercials & scammers which make you feel you gotta have something to wear off.  99/100 after 3 days you'll find you don't really need/want that item anymore. You should know one of the major ways the scammers work is to tell you 'the deal' has to close RIGHT NOW (or today, etc.) as it's the only one left, the last day to get whatever, the price'll go up & in some way you'll lose out.

Invariably, if the deal's legit there's no problem waiting, the item can be held for us for 3 days, the price won't change etc.  Scammers/thieves always ramp up the pressure to 'buy now' and try to talk one out of waiting.  Never hear from them again.

Oh, and did you know that if you do your homework & Google an item on Amazon, Ebay & virtually every store out there - including HD - will meet or beat that price.  I just bought a stove at HD 'on sale' for $654 (marked down from $799) for $550 because I found the same stove on Amazon for that price. (Of course that would've taken 3 wks to deliver + shipping but all the salesclerk did was look at my printout & matched it on the spot.)  Also, most stores, auto dealers, car repair places & such will knock 10% off the final price simply for the asking!

That being said,  I've shopped HD for 20 yrs so I asked the regional manager [whom I know] about this & told him where I saw your complaint and he stated this type of sale is NOT allowed per HD policy.  If you were cheated he says if you have or can get the name of the employee and/or have your receipt that would be great. If you have your receipts sent to an email address or put the purchase on a credit card that could also help give them exactly who carried out this 'deal'.  If you paid cash & have no proof, then tell them what day/time you came to HD & possibly describe what this guy looked like & they WILL track down whodunnit.

First, talk to the manager of the store & bring in the stereo.  Explain what happened when & bring any of the proofs above.  They should refund your money in full or, if you don't have any proof(s) listed the store can pull the security footage which will tell them which employee (real or phony) scammed you  He assured me as soon as they verified what happened that employee will not only be terminated per HD policybut if you were deliberately cheated local law enforcement will also be notified of what happened.  Odds are you aren't the only complaintant.

Hope this helps,

Good luck!
