CHI Institute in Broomall PA has been accused of ripping off low-income, minority students. Students were enrolled in a program called Surgical Technician. They had to complete many courses including an externship that Kaplan/CHI Institute Broomall, in their brochure, indicated they would provide to the students.

But Kaplan/CHI Institute Broomall never had enough externship locations for all their students. Many were sent home and dropped from the school's roster. But these students had taken out loans from the government, called Title IV loans. The course cost about $22,000. And they were expected to repay these loans even though they never finished the program. How many students were mired in an abyss of debt because they could not repay these loans? How many had their lives and their credit history ruined by Kaplan/CHI Institute Broomall?

In the meantime, Kaplan/CHI Institute Broomall executives knew that this was duplicitous (taking government money for a program they knew students weren't able to complete) but they kept enrolling students and raking in the dough. Kaplan is a for-profit school owned by the Washington Post. Which means that while low-income, nearly impoverished minorities were struggling with this unmanagable debt, Washington Post shareholders were smiling all the way to the bank.

What a disgrace. Avoid CHI Institute Broomall and all Kaplan schools, because if they can do it in Broomall who is to say they aren't doing it to students elsewhere in their other schools. Be smart and stay away!
