I have contacted Kaplan on several occasions and have had no luck with a explanation only exuses and promises to call back. I had alot of trouble recieving my living exspense loans and I would call often. They assured me everything was ok but that the last check before graduation would need to be held to make sure there was no balance on my account.

They finally released the check in May 2006 after I graduated. I waited on my diploma and it was never sent instead they billed me for 372.00. I asked how this could be done because they had held my 1000.00 check to make sure everything was covered. They explained that they had made a error and not charged my pell grant enough money for my intern class. I left several messages and recieved no response from a supervisor.

Today October 23, 2006 I recieved a letter from a collection agency asking that I pay 2600.00 This is crazy no one ever contacted me from Kaplan about this amount and the 372.00 was not even resolved. I called and recorded my conversation today and the woman I spoke with said that my pell had not been dispersed within 120 days and that by federal law they weren't allowed to credit my account after 120 days. The terms were August and November 2005. I would like to know why no one will give me a reasonable explanation and accept the blame of their mistake.

They said all my documents were turned in and she didn't understand what happened but how can I be charged without being informed by Kaplan but instead a collection agency for money that wasn't owed.

This was a waste of my 10,000 dollars worth of student loans as well. I dont even have a diploma. How can they get away with this? Now I am waiting AGAIN for a supervisor to look everything over Maybe I should have contacted a lawyer first. I am afraid they will try to cover up their scheme. On top of everything they said the pell money was there but for SOME REASON it wasn't applied. This is so ABSURD! If anyone kknows what steps might resolve this contact me.

WE NEED TO FIGHT KAPLAN BACK!

AUTHOR: Daniel - (USA)

POSTED: Tuesday, October 20, 2009

I too have experienced a very high amount of problems with Kaplan University. Apparently, they tell you everything you want to hear until you start giving them money because then they don't care anymore its all about taking the money and not caring about the student's education. We'll start with the fact that I have been enrolled in Kaplan since October of 2008 and was only able to speak with my financial aid officer once and that was the day I enrolled. Never again have I been able to contact him, he never calls back, his voicemail is always full, and he never responds to emails. I have been waiting since June for a reimbursement check that should have been giving to me within the first two weeks of June we are now in October almost into November and I have still not received the check, but you know Kaplan took their money right away. I get the run-around daily and then today they decided to kick me out because I failed a class. How are you going to call yourself the school of higher education when you kick people out for failing? How are they going to deny a student education when that student is paying for it? Last time I checked you never paid for school as a child and could not be suspended for failing, Why now that I PAY for my education are they going to deny it to me? I took 1 seminar for a class and now they are telling me I owe them 3200.00 for one seminar. Are these people crazy? Who do they think they are?

The main thing I don't understand is the fact that I could be kicked out of school without warning! Being KICKED out of school for failing baffles me in itself. I was a Criminal Justice student and have done lots of research on this. Kaplan can be brought to justice if enough people can get together and take them down. They won't know whats coming to them when they find out they are being sued by their own students with information that was taught during the time of enrollment. I am overly pissed off at this whole situation and would NEVER recommend Kaplan University to ANYONE!! I couldn't believe the amount of employees that had either no sense, no education, or no gratitude about anything. These people are more incompetent than a kindergarten class. The employees learn more from you than you do from them. So who exactly is your money paying for? Is it your education? or that of the employee paid to teach you? They have had my pell grant for last semester for over 4 months and for sure applied it to my account but yet is holding out on giving me my reimbursement for LAST semester and now I am due for one this semester and they want to kick me out! This is unbelievable and I would like to take action! If anyone agrees or has further information to assist me please contact me(((ROR REDACTED)))

Kaplan University is severly micromanaged and they hire idiots for managers.

AUTHOR: Kraplan University - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, December 04, 2007

Kaplan University has very very very high turnover in all departments in all locations. Why? Because they only care about money. They don't give us Christmas Eve off for crying out loud, you have to use a vacation or personal day for that. And raises are very minimal, we must work super hard for no money so that Andy Rosen and his buddies can play golf in exotic places around the world. Students who want to pursue an online degree should check out actual schools, many state schools now offer programs online. Drexel University is a good example They are legit and they didn't try to sell me on anything.

Oh and I was going to go to Kaplan and use my discount, but the terms and conditions are terrible, if you GET FIRED, Kaplan takes ALL the money back.

Kaplan University and other FOR-PROFIT schools are BUSINESSES SELLING EDUCATION. Some are accredited, some aren't.

Oh and be sure to visit my parody of Kaplan: kraplanuniversity.blogspot.com

I even redesigned the logo for you all!

HAHA!

KAPLAN U SUCKS

#9 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Kaplan Univ

AUTHOR: J - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, July 09, 2007

I worked in the Admissions Dept at Kaplan and although the students are receiving a sound, valid education and diploma/degree all the admissions advisor's directors/managers care about is getting you to enroll and get through the first week of classes so Kaplan collects financial aid. Yes, there are many of us that truly care about our students and keep in touch with them (as iI do as an ex-employee) but we work there under conditions of scare tactics and fear of being fired if we do not make our enrollment (sales) goals each quarter.

I quit because the managers and directors only cared about the allmighty dollar and some were shady, dishonest, discriminatory and unfair. I loved my job.

Kaplan is a Rip Off

AUTHOR: Sheila - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, February 22, 2007

You can read my original post above. Here is what Kaplan says I owe (directly off the website)

Account: KCO Tuition and Fees

Due Date: 12/15/2005

Amount Due: $1,792.00

Statement Balance: $0.00

Payment Plan Past Due Amount: $0.00

Notice the statement balance and payment plan past due amount! Also notice the due date!

Now here is what the second page says:

Account Status

The activity displayed below reflects all transactions posted as of the last statement date.

Account: KCO Tuition and Fees Account Actions: Select Action Current Statement Statement History Make Payment Schedule Payment

This information is accurate up to Thu, Feb 22, 2007 at 10:56:28 PM, EST

Current Balance: $0.00

Payment Plan Past Due: $0.00

Payment Plan Due: $0.00

Current Activities

Date Term Description Charges Payments Amount

Balance forward as of last statement 0.00

02/22/2007 Current Account Balance 0.00

EXPECTED FINANCIAL AID THROUGH CURRENT BILLING PERIOD

Note: Students will be responsible for remitting payment for any expected financial aid or pending scholarships that are not received and paid within the term.

Current Account Balance less Expected Aid $0.00

Now....they say I can't have my Associates Degree because I owe them $1792.00. I have never received a call from them, I have never received a bill from them, and I have never received my diploma from them. The only communication I have had with them is when I called them to find out when I would be receiving my diploma and at that time she told me I could not have it because I owed them money which I never new I owed until after I finished 2 1/2 years of school and decided not to continue for the time being because I needed a break.

If you read my previous post you get the idea.

I am in for a class action law suit, but I haven't a clue how to get started. Any Attorney's out there willing to help? Preferrably one that didn't go to Kaplan.

Kaplan University - Pinnacle

AUTHOR: Mike - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, February 13, 2007

Hi guys, i had the same dilemma, as most of you, i graduated and ended up owing $550.00 before i could get my diploma, i called and called and called, and got some guy from Florida that had no clue of who i was.

I hung up, then called back an hour later, and got a representative from Chicago, The lady was really nice and helpful on the phone, she explained to me what happened and told me to submit payment to chicago.

I explained that i could not afford to do so, so they put me on a "financial plan". The lady also explained to me that, even though i did not have my diploma. I could still put my kaplan university information on my resume, which i did, and the lady told me that when an employer does call the university, the university routes the caller to my academic counselor, who can verify that i do attend Kaplan.

I was very optimistic, but i did so. Let me tell you this, i just got a job, and Kaplan has kept their word. My academic counselor did verify that i was a student, so no problem there! All i have to do is pay a couple more weeks to get my Diploma back.

I attended less than one month of classes at Kaplan, and withdrew because everytime I called, they had another excuse about paperwork and loans that I need, even though my intake counselor said everything was straight.

I still occasionally get bills for 2800 dollars - for ONE MONTH of schooling. And once a year, they'll send me tax forms to fill out.

So far, I've done nothing, and it has not shown on my credit reports. They've either lost the majority of my information, or I got lost in some gray area where no one knows what to do. Thankfully, I didn't lose years of schooling and lack a diploma for it.

Whats further ridiculous is my prestigious private university degree cost about the same amount (after financial aid, etc) and carries a much better reputation. To finish my degree, I went back to a real school. There seems to be no advantage to Kaplan for me anymore - their customer service is shoddy, their protocol is lacking, and a 'real' school turned out to be much easier. Who knew?

Kaplan University Also are ripping me off!!

AUTHOR: T - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, January 25, 2007

I added Kaplan in late 2004-2005 and also have been harassed saying I owe them money. A couple weeks ago I get an e-mail asking if I wanted to re-enroll in the college. I dropped out because they weren't answering any of my questions and after awhile I start the realize the school was shady which I should of picked up on it from the beginning since all the hassle I went through just to try to get in. I get a letter in the mail saying I owe them 1824.00 to them from Pinnacle Financial Group and I'm wondering what the heck I owe them for since I had financial aid. I think this is a scam because I never heard any of this before!

I Too Have a Problem With Kaplan University

AUTHOR: Sheila - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, October 23, 2006

I have over $13,000 in student loans with no Diploma. I first got my certificate for Crime Scene Technician then I registered for an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice. I worked very very hard for 2 years just to find out that in the end they now say I owe then over $2,000 and I cannot receive my diploma until it is paid in full. My husband has the same problem, he worked hard for an Associates Degree in Information Technology and took extra classes to get a certification in website design and never received either one. They never informed us that we owed money until we decided not to register for a Bachelors Degree. This really sucks! How can we prove to a potential employer that we actually have a degree. They will not release an official transcript either. What can we do?
