I bought a puppy from a woman named Karin Adams nee Barthel in Quesnel. She told me that her family pets had a litter of pups with a friends dog and she was selling them only to recoup the money spent on vaccines and worming, not to make a profit.

when she brought him to me she said he had been carsick and needed a little cleaning up.. counted her money and was gone. When I unwrapped the poor little guy he was emanciated and severly dehydrated. I took him to my vet that night and he had to have intervenous fluids and I was asked to get a stool sample from him. The next day he was even sicker. My vet comfirmed he had the deadly and highly contagious dog disease parvo virus. I had to have him put down. She guaranteed his health and when i called her she gave me the runaround then finally stopped responding all together.

I posted an ad about my story and was FLOODED with emails from others who had similar stories. I called the Quesnel SPCA and was told she is a known puppy mill operator who has been charged with 10 counts of fraud this past January alone.

She sells her pups on the free website Kijiji and also supplies Petland petstores with their puppies under the table for 300 dollars a pup, then they turn around and sell them for 800-1200 dollars each. Her animals are kept in disugstingly dirty cages anywhere she can find room..she even has some in closets ...and breeds them repeatedly, when they are no good to her anymore she sells them off as "family pets" on the net. Her other favorite scam is to ask you for half or all of the money for the dog she supposedly has for sale upfront (usually deposited into her daughters account at royal bank Christine Adams) and then disapears with your money and you never recieve an animal at all.

She also is known to answer ads people place giving away pets , then turns around and breeds these animals in her mill or resells them for a profit.

Beware this woman, she is a con artist who will take you for everything she can and freely sells diseased animals to unsuspecting buyers all over the lower mainland. lucky for me my other dog had just had his vaccines updated...or I could have lost him as well. I was shocked and outraged when I started investigating this woman to find out just how many puppy mills are out there! If you are looking for a family pet...go to a rescue society or a registered breeder, dont get scammed like I did it.Im out $800 for vet bills and her "adoption" fee but more importantly was the emotional impact it had on me and my family. It was a heartbreaking experience.
