I will keep this short and simple..my fiance bought an engagement ring from Kay in October of 2007 the ring fell out in June of 2008 and the company said since I did not bring the ring back in 6 months, it's my fault the stone fell out. As you can imagine, I've called and written everyone about this, no response.

$3000 DOLLARS GONE!!

DO NOT BUY FROM KAY JEWELERS/JARED.

A Couple Of Things

AUTHOR: Cory - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, July 23, 2008

Been in the jewelry business for 24+ years. Diamonds just don't "fall" out of rings. A properly set stone will stay in a mounting for 20 or 30 years or more until the prongs start to wear out, down and then need to be re-tipped. That six month inspection is soo much BS. All it is, is an attempt to get you back in the store to buy more. Don't EVER buy "insurance" through a store. It's vastly overpriced, has way to many restrictions and doesn't cover jack. Don't know what it is now, but years ago, you could get an unrestricted, no deductable, full coverage policy up to $5000 for $50 PER YEAR. It has to be a "scheduled item". That means if you had paid $4.12 a month to some real insurance company, the diamond that "fell" out of your ring would have been covered NO QUESTIONS ASKED. AND, you wouldn't have had to go back to any jewelry store every six months to get it inspected. Years ago, when I worked at zales, they use to charge 24 cents per $100 with little coverage. A real insurance company charged EIGHT CENTS per $100 and you had FULL COVERAGE. First year they took in 8 millon dollars and paid out like 1 millon dollars. Pretty good deal for them. Look into renter's insurance. It's next to nothing to buy. Make sure to shop around for it also. Insurance can vary. And I don't sell insurance.

I assume you bought their protection plan?

I assume you bought their protection plan? If so it is clearly stated in the terms and conditions that you must have the ring inspected every 6 months (a service that is FREE of charge by the way) or else the warranty is void. Obviously you did not have the ring inspected as agreed upon. Therefore this was not a rip off.
